Black Diamond Primrose AL Harness - Women's - 2007
The Black Diamond Primrose Harness is an all-around climbing harness designed and specifically sized and styled for women. Black Diamond's new bullhorn waistbelt distributes weight more evenly throughout the harness. Molded gear loops make racking and accessing gear easy, while full-strength belay and haul loops add functionality. Adjustable leg loops allow you to tailor the fit of this harness to your body shape or outerwear of the day. The drop seat makes it easier to answer nature's call. –Vendor
Bottom Line: Whether you're just learning, starting to lead, or sending trad routes, the Primrose will keep up.
My only other comparison to this harness is the rented ones I use at the gym. So this is definitely way comfier than those. With this, I have the added incentive to go climbing more often. Sizing wise, I'm quite a tiny person so I got a size 4. I'm normally a UK size 6-8 and I wasn't sure of US sizing so the Chat function above was really useful. I liked the instant reply I have to questions about the product. It's as if you're shopping at the store itself. It helped ease my worries and aided in my purchase.
When ordering, be sure to check your waist/leg measurements - don't go by the numeric sizes. Also, pick the harness that has your measurements in the middle of the harness, buying a size larger will leave you exchanging the harness. My measurements were the small-end of the size 10, and it turns out that it doesn't fit comfortably. Otherwise, the harness is super comfortable, the gear loops are easy to handle, and is a solid piece of gear.
Im a beginner indoor climber with aspirations to do at least one climb outdoors next year - will this one work for me? Im 5'10" clothing size 8-10 so which size, and how long will it last/
Should be fine as a starter harness. Gym harnesses don't really matter too much because you don't spend as much time using them as you do outdoors (cleaning routes, anchoring, rappelling, etc.) I would probably buy the 8, you want this harness to fit snug.It seems like indoor harnesses last quite a while. Outdoors is a different story. If you mostly climb indoors and climb outside 2-3 times a year, I would guess this harness would last you 2-3 years.
This harness is built well, very reliable. The waist and legs are adjustable, but try to get a size larger than you wear. The padding on the harness fits well to my body, especially around the hips, there is xtra padding shaped for a woman. Works well for a beginner/ intermediate (I do not have an expert opinion). Cute colors and great deal!
Awesome harness, really solid and works well. Definitely a great buy, however, it does not run true to size at all. I'm a size 6 and ordered a size larger. Still had to return it for a size 10. Other than that, couldn't be happier. Highly recommended, Black Diamond makes quality gear.
Be careful about sizing with this harness. It says it fits a range of sizes, but because of the design, it really only fits the smallest of those sizes.
I've had some height put on this harness and its great! Great comfort. Be careful of sizing! When I ordered it I was a dangling between 4-6. I got the 4, which luckily fit, but I can't gain anymore weight in my legs or it won't! I would suggest a size bigger than you anticipate because it is still very adjustable. Great for getting out of gym rental harnesses. Very durable. Excellent for leading too! It can however tire the insides of your legs if sit in it too long or fall a lot. (Don't fall!)
I actually bought this harness at a local store, but I had to write a review to tell everyone how much I like it. I tried the Primrose on first and the 5 others that followed didn't compare in comfort and fit. The shape is perfect for a woman's body and the material around the belt is very comfortable (no scratchiness or chafing). I normally wear between a size 3 and 5, but I purchased this harness in a size 6, so I recommend trying it before buying if at all possible. On top of all that, the Primrose is probably the most "fashionable" of the women's harnesses out there - mine's a pretty light blue. And it's made by Black Diamond, a name you can trust.
I wear a size 6 consistently and the 6 in this harness was too small. I would suggest getting a size larger then you usually get. Other than that it is comfortable, easy to use and all together wonderful harness!
Love it! Very adjustable so easy to change if you're climbing in the cold and wearing more layers, padded really well so doesn't dig in even if you have to sit on it on a difficult climb, very comfortable! Was the first harness I owned so I can't address the size problems everyone's having but even after I have to retire mine I'll be getting another! Only thing is tis not too stylish...looks a little bulky and awkward on some but who cares if it performs well!
I agree with the other comments about sizing. Fortunately, it worked out for me. I wear this for long days of walking and climbing and love that it continues to be comfortable all day long. The best part of this harness is the gear loops. They are stiff and slant towards the front so your gear doesn't get lost behind you. Easier to stay organized. It's also pretty low profile, so I can wear a pack over it or other clothes and not feel too bulked up.
I love this harness. I've gear tested several, and hands down this is the most comfy for my body- especially around the thighs. Sizing was true for me (12 pants, 12 harness). I love the purple too- though the inside light grey does gets dirtier pretty quick compared to the standard black harnesses. Worth considering- but worth cleaning too. :)
I liked this harness. It was comfy and fit well. I felt like the size was pretty true to my usual sizing. I wore it all day and even forgot I had it on at some points. Usually, I can't wait to get my harness off, but this one is the biggest bang for the buck. The only thing that bothered me what that it was a bit painful on the hips with a pack over it while hiking. Definitely a great sport harness.
Got this harness for my first time out ice climbing, I definitely appreciated it, since I don't have good enough technique to really "stick" to the ice yet. This harness was literally so comfortable, I forgot to take it off when I took off all my other gear! Great fit, very comfortable, I'll absolutely buy another one when I need a replacement.
