Black Diamond Sabretooth Pro Crampon

With 14 vicious fangs that tear up everything from vertical water ice to mixed alpine climbs, the Black Diamond Sabretooth Pro Crampon is the all-around favorite for versatile winter performance. With a new stainless steel design, the Sabretooth now features lower weight, higher durability, as well as added protection from rust and snow balling. The step-in attachment system clamps securely onto technical mountain boots with front and rear welts, and a low-profile micro-adjustment system helps you dial in the perfect fit.

Bottom Line: This cat is no pussy.

A Tiger by the Tail

I used these crampons on a recent climb up Huayna Potosi in Bolivia. What an absolute pleasure. You could really feel those teeth sink into the hard stuff - I really felt as if I could focus on technique with these on my feet. On the final push up an almost vertical wall of mixed climbing, the front teeth performed flawlessly. These beauties go on and come off easily. The micro adjustment on the heel worked great, even with gloves. On the way down, as things got a bit softer I was grateful for the anti-balling plates.

Do La Sportiva Nepal EVO GTX boots work with these? And what

Do La Sportiva Nepal EVO GTX boots work with these? And what is the difference between the Pro and the normal sabertooth BD crampon? Thank you.

The Pro model is the step-in version. Normal (Clip) is Newmatic with a rear bail and toe strap.

These crampons are awesome. I have used them on all sorts of snow from rock hard neve to the softer mushy stuff. The Sabretooths bite into all of it very solidly--including on more moderate slopes and really steep stuff. The micro-adjustment system is also great because you can fit these spikes exactly to your boots so there is no unwanted foot movement in the crampons. On my Lowa boots, these fit like a glove after only a few small adjustments. There isn't a better crampon that can cover such wide variety of uses out there.

What model Lowa's are you using? I have the Expert GTX and some say the front clip on some crampons don't fit correctly on these Lowa's.
