Black Diamond precut the Ascension Nylon Custom STS Skins to fit your ski length to save you tedious trimming time and effort. The redesigned tip and tail attachments are 20% stronger than previous versions, and the tail strap provides 10cm of adjustment for the perfect fit.
Bottom Line: More time on the hill, less time trimming.
JusT bought my second pair ... these skins rock my backcountry box . Steep terrain just trust these babies and they'll take you there. Worth every penny.
The widest skins I've seen are 140mm. Black Diamond and Voile both have them, but I would check out climbingskinsdirect.com. They are cheaper, and have a 140mm skin as well. The P 130's aren't really designed as a touring ski. They're more for mechanized access. However, that isn't to say you don't have some options to make them work One option I have found for wider skis, is to cut a slit down the center of the skin, so that there is a space in the center of the skin, but full contact to the edges. This has allowed me to use the same skins on a few pairs of differently shaped skis, and performed really well. Black Diamond makes 'split skins' like this, but they have a mesh material between them to hold the sides together, mostly for weight saving and ease when pulling them apart. The splitting of your own narrower skins would probably be your best bet, as you will not get full coverage on your P 130's with a 140mm skin. If you have the right needles, awl, thread, and skills, I guess you could try sewing some skinny skins together, but that would likely be too much of a pain in the @$$. Hope that helps a bit. Good luck, and happy turns.
Love these mainly because of the tail attachment. Super quick and easy to use, won't fail even if your glue does! Just don't lose the little metal clip.
Get the 125mm x 192cm length. That way they are definitely long and wide enough. You will be trimming them to custom fit anyway, and the price is the same as the 125 x 186cm.
I have used it on the Scratch BC from 06. as for the size the 120mm works great. but with a 128mm tip you could go for more coverage with a 130mm skin if you are carrying a large pack.
Yes, the clip attachment will go over the twin tip. You should get your skins to about 5mm with in the width of the widest part of the ski and then trim them to size.
Great climbing skins especially with the Volkl Chopsticks. I bought last years pair of skins in 130mm for 173-180cm skis. They fit the Chopsticks perfectly. Then simply get some Marker Duke bindings and you're well set.
I would get the non-custom Nylon STS so that you can make them your own length, and not have to worry about what size you should get. And the 125 should probably give you enough coverage all over.
They fit perfectly on my skis. Easy to adjust size. I walked straight up the mountain. The best Christmas present and my wife got all the information she neede from Backcountry's chat room before she purchased them. It was easy.
the front attachemtnet is super great, I have had a few pairs of skins and these have by far the the best front attachement point. Just make sure that you do ti right, you only get one shot at it.
Depends on the steepness of the mountains you want to climb. Normaly regular straight skins not wider than your ski at mid-sole (88mm for you) will work just fine.
The lenght shold approximately match your ski-size. They should not be longer because that will make it impossible to strap them on. And with 174cm skis you will have enough traction.
So these come already cut for specific widths and lengths... And because they are by BD, they mate best with BD skis.
I highly suggest just getting a pair of regular skins and cutting them yourself, it is a little intimidating at first, but there are very good tutorials online.
