Black Diamond Patrol Glove

Black Diamond builds their Patrol Gloves with durable, yet-supple, Pittards goatskin material to hold up to the tremendous abuse of patrollers and backcountry addicts. Skiers and snowboarders who put in full seasons love the double-layered palms and Kevlar stitching. Waterproof breathable BDry H2O inserts keep hands dry in all conditions from deep powder to spring corn. These Black Diamond gloves use low-bulk 100g fleece insulation concentrated on the back of the hand for top-notch dexterity.

Bottom Line: As tough as gloves get.

the old stand-by

By:

This has been a reliable glove. I've gone through 4 pairs of these. Usually get a season of patrolling and 1 Himalayan expedition out of them before they are played. Very good for mild to cool temps. I recommend it.

3 Years of Abuse

By:
January 5, 2010

After 3 epic seasons of skiing and climbing, the only sign of wear is a broken strap that connects the cinch cord to the gauntlet on one glove - THATS IT. The leather is super durable, just treat it with Nikwax waterproofing at the beginning of the season. Not the warmest glove, but you sacrifice a bit for Jedi-like dexterity and no-bulk simplicity. Simply awesome gloves that fit true to the sizing chart and I use them as my everyday standard.

It's an over-the-cuff design, but it's low-profile enough to fit it under if you so choose.

Well made but runs a bit small

By:
January 20, 2010

The XL is really not quite there... compared to other gloves in that size. Maybe BD needs to make a XXL, but they are just a bit too short in the fingers for me (longest index finder 3 3/4" from base). Other than that its a good working glove.

tough glove

best winter work glove ever, ive had every brand of so called work or patrol glove for my job as a lift mechanic and all them would last only about a month before blowing out except for the patrol and the king pin glove

It appears that one is a new style. I'd go for the cheaper one for sure because it lists "primaloft" (wicked awesome) as its insulation.

Best glove I've used

By:
October 29, 2008

I bought a pair of these about 3 years ago in tan and black. Very warm and most importantly, breathable! I have used them for skiing every year (about 20 days) and for snowmobiling (again, about 20 days). Now, the fleece lining is starting to pack out and they aren't quite as warm, but still warm enough for 20 degrees and up. I too have started using them as an everyday glove here in Bozeman for EVERYTHING.

I am ordering a new pair this week and hopefully they'll be just as amazing.

If you are looking for a super durable glove that gives awesome dexterity and is really, really comfy, this is it!

Never disappointed

By:
September 19, 2008

These gloves (last year's) have served me well for everything from t-shirt spring skiing to hiking Highlands Bowl in 20-degree weather with 25 mph wind chill. The only time my hands have ever been cold in them was at the Freeheel Throwdown in Steamboat when it was 5 degrees out and I was carrying my skis. The hand that was above my shoulder got cold then. Other than that, they have stood up amazingly well, never leaked or worn out, easily dexterous enough to buckle boots, clip leashes, use a camera, whatever. They've been used heavily for 3 seasons plus a trip up Rainier and I've never been disappointed. I can only imagine the new ones are even better.

Not a warm glove

By:
January 7, 2010

These gloves are great...for shoveling out your driveway. But for skiing in any temperatures colder then 25 degrees they just can't keep your fingers warm. Very comfortable with lots of dexterity, but that doesn't make much difference if your fingers are frozen.

Not so sure

By:
November 7, 2008

I was not so impressed with these BD Patrol Gloves. They were great for about 2 months into the ski season and then the insulation packed out and my fingers were always cold. Maybe BD has made some improvements but I'd be wary...

Invest in duct tape

By:
September 14, 2009

I have had 3 pairs of Black Diamond Patrol gloves and while they are warm they fall apart quite easily. Almost everyday I found my self having to rap them in duct tape to keep them together. I am a ski patroller and I don't see how they can call these patrol gloves. Go to the hard wear store and get some winter work gloves. they will hold up a lot better and are a LOT cheaper.

Terrible Glove...Look Elsewhere

By:
November 28, 2009

I bought these gloves for snowboarding. I used them about 25 times before they started to absorb water. By day 35 after a few hours of riding they would be completely water logged. I could literally ring them out. Would never buy a glove from Black Diamond again.

Did you try using leather conditioner? It is widely known that leather gloves eventually lose their water repellency and have to be maintained.
