the straps and boot is suede. the 200g referes to the insulation. If your sitting out in the cold for a while this boot is not for you. this boot will not keep you dry in the winter, just warm when you don't have to step in a slush puddle. These will look cute walking to class or to work, but don't expect to keep your toes try for long. If your looking for killer waterproof boots try the sorel caribou boot.
