Backcountry Access Tour System Shovel/Probe - 2005

The Backcountry Access Tour Shovel System is the ultimate in lightweight, space-saving, and most importantly, life-saving backcountry gear. At a weight of only 5.4-ounces, the Tour Shovel has a super-strong oval shaft that's easy to grip with a gloved hand. A T-grip is easy to use and can be looped through and worn without a pack with user-supplied webbing or rope. Of course, the shining feature of the Tour Shovel System is its ultra-compact capacity with a six-foot probe that stows inside the shovel shaft. The 6000-series aluminum blade with oval ferrule is super strong, and unlike some lightweight composite blades, can power through set-up snow and ice. AVAILABLE IN FIXED AND EXTENDABLE LENGTHS.

Bottom Line: Backcountry Access raising the bar in shovel integration and design…again.

Awesome shovel

Awesome shovel, and I love having the probe built into the handle making for one less thing to find a place for in the pack.

Shovel/probe

Nice probe and I like how it fits inside the shovel. Only complaint is that the shovel handle is a "T" and not a "D" for comfort.

Secrets in the Wallowa Mountains

By:
April 22, 2005

My probe and shovel were used only for practice rescues in the Wallowa Mt. range in Oregon. The rest of the time we skied our butts off. However, on our last night of the trip, we went out for a midnight ski. We built a bonfire, told secrets to each other about ourselves, and howled at the moon every so often. (the whisky definitely helped loosen the vocal chords) Boady, our fuzzy friend, howled, too. To contain the fire at the beginning, we used our shovels to dig a pit. My shovel worked just fine!!! Thanks for a wonderful product.

Tracker DTS Beacon

By:
February 20, 2006

Beacons are a must. If you are wondering which one to purchase, don't hesitate—the Tracker DTS is a no-brainer in all areas. Only complaint is that if you have a small to large beer gut it takes a bit of time practicing where to put it. However, it does seem to curve for this reason.
