Skiing a plank that’s 140 at the shovel is like trying to dunk your pudgy cousin in the pool—it’s nearly impossible to make it sink. The insane surface area of the Atomic Thug Ski floats you to the top of the snowy sea as you pounce pillows, cut switch lines, and throw nose butter 5s off of cornices, making you feel like the captain of a really big (yet highly maneuverable) speed boat. A snappy wood core keeps you pop pop poppin’, and honeycomb inserts in the tip and tail reduce end weight for faster spins.
Atomic Thugs. Atomic has had a stranglehold on the racing scene for some time - and still does. Over the last couple years they have broadened their horizons with a big-mountain ski; the THUG. I have skied Alta every day for the last 2 weeks on this ski. I really like the ski. It charges through the crud - kind of bulldozes. And skis pow incredibly well. I am a big fan of this ski. Very mobile skis considering the dimensions. Nimble. Look out for the new bad-ass skis coming out from Atomic for next season!!!
i skied these on a lot of different conditions and was really surprised by how well they perfomed. Obviously having them on powder days is awesome. But they performed well everywhere. I have used ski's that were a lot more fun on groomers but groomers certainly aren't the reason i bought these. In the powder they are a BLASTOLA!
I demoed these skis 2 yrs ago at the Bird. AMAZING!! Blew Through Everything...These skis were like a Plow Truck that handles on rails with Rocket Engines!! SIMPLY AMAZING! I fell in Love with them!! I am from New England, so I bought the PIMPS instead...if I lived @ the Bird...I WOULD own 2 pairs of these...
Had another day on the Thug and love it more every day. Rips right through the crud and floats on the powder. This ski was made for Utah snow. Spins on a dime!
I have a pair of Thugs unmounted. Ive been trying to sell them, but im considering putting a touring binding on for next season. There so light I figure theyd be great. Does anyone have any advice on this setup?
Well you have a lot of options if you want a touring set-up with these. You can grab some Dynafits, keep things light weight and good for long distances and stuff like that. You can get some Fritschi Diamir Freeride Plus's or Silvretta bindings, which make a good compromise I find of weight, uphill and down hill performance. Or you can get some big burly Dukes, and make a heavier touring rig, for shorter tours or sidecountry stuff.
Bought these last week and have ridden them every day this week. They rip through the crud and float on the powder. Turn super quick and spin like you aren't even wearing skis! Love em! An all around amazing ski. ps I've been dying to ride the Bent Chetlers but even Chris Benchetler rode these in Reasons.
Rocked a pair of 192cm when I saw that they have a 40m radius. Oh hell yeah they wanna go straight! What a fun ride. The honeycomb tips and tails mean that even my skinny ass could still turn em quick in the trees and spin em easy off natural hits. Bigger (170lbs and up) people may want to check out a stiffer platform, but this is a near perfect BIG ski for smaller shreds. Near perfect? Yeah, would rather a more creative name than THUG. The fake-gangsta thing has to go away. It's not funny/relevant/cool anymore.
