Zip up the waterproof Arc'teryx Men's Titan Jacket when you're playing in cold, wet environments. This insulated fortress of a jacket delivers Gore-Tex waterproofing, superb breathability, and high-level warmth. Toasty, quilt-free Arc'teryx hardshell construction maintains full weatherproof integrity and sports a bevy of features to maintain comfort, improve safety, and expand range of motion. A neck gaiter, adjustable powder skirt, adjustable cuffs, and a laminated hem with pull cords lock out the elements and lock in warmth. WaterTight zippers keep moisture from sneaking through this impenetrable jacket. Arc'teryx added a RECCO reflector to help facilitate backcountry emergency rescues. Articulated elbows and gusseted underarms keep you charging through the backcountry at a fast clip. Adjust the helmet-compatible, insulated Storm Hood to fit your noggin when the weather changes for the worse.
Bottom Line: The Arc'teryx Titan runs the gamut of cold weather activities.
Bought this jacket on sale, still expensive but worth every penny. The quality is very good and it is very warm. Definately a cold weather jacket. It is not as versatile as the other arc'teryx shells that are so thin and breathable that you can use them as rain coats in the fall and winter (my brothers both have the betas and they wear them more often than i can wear mine). I would say if you want a good looking super warm winter coat than you should go with this. If you want something that you would wear more often go with one of the other shells as this coat is over kill for anyday over 30 degrees.
If this is what you want you won't be dissappointed by anything about this coat.
Bottom line- I have never been in a warmer winter jacket. I was trying out some jackets from North Face and Patagonia and the warmth this jacket provides is well worth the couple bucks more. This is one of those jackets you can go out with just a t-shirt underneath when it's 10 degrees outside and windy (as a matter of fact I just did that tonight to take out the trash). It's one of those jackets when you're wearing it, I have to ask friends around if it's actually cold outside cause you really don't know cause you don't feel a thing. And seriously, I'm quite sensitive to cold, so that's an impressive feat.
Had this jacket for a few months. As most have already said, it is a very warm jacket and probably would not require any significant layering. I'm 5'6" 150 lbs and got a medium. Its a little roomy with plenty of room for layers with freedom of movement. Maybe should have gotten a small since I dont think I will need to wear anything thick underneath.
The shell is rock solid and when the neck gaiter is engaged, you can completely cover the lower portion of your face up to your nose. When the neck gaiter is combined with some goggles and a hat, your face is pretty much completely protected. The hood is also insulated and is very warm. Maybe too warm in most situations. Its great on a long lift ride through harsh weather.
Neck gaiter can be annoying when zipped all the way up and not positioned over your mouth/chin. It jabs you under the chin. This is not a problem is the hood is engaged.
The side pockets are very deep and lined with a very nice silky feeling material. You can stow a good amount of stuff there.
There is one inside mesh-ish pocket. There are no loops and holes for a music player or anything but you can still throw your device into the inside pocket and have the headphones find their way to your ears. I dont think Arcteryx typically adds these frills though.
Since the shell and insulation are one unit, there are no pit zips. It can get hot.
If you're looking for a really warm ski jacket or like to keep the layering at a minimum, I'd pick this one up.
dude!...fission ar is made for SUB ZERO temps!...you will ROAST and DIE in 50-60 degree weather, if you dont drown in a pool of your own sweat first...grab a softshell or a pullover...also you should as questions about products on the same web page as the produts
I have had this coat for about a month. I had an Arc'Teryx Patriot that I love, but the zipper started splitting. I have come to learn that the quality of Arc'Teryx from China is not what it was from Canada. This coat is also from China, but is made more durable, and with a better zipper.
The Good: Bulletproof (not literally, of course), but when they say windproof and waterproof, they mean it. No cold or wetness gets in. Period. Whether it's 40 degrees and raining or 5 degrees, your torso won't have a clue.
The Bad: Made in China. I'm not really a snob about where my clothes are made, but I wonder if this jacket will eventually run into problems like the last one. As I said, it is much better quality, but I'm not so sure.
The OK: Very small breast pocket and very deep hand pockets. I like to put more stuff near my chest than near my stomach - wallet, cell, etc. Also, I couldn't put up the hood if the zipper was up all the way, so I'd have to unzip to get the hood on.
Investing on Arcteryx products had proved to my family that really compensates... technology and design. Great skiing jacket. I was going to buy the SV model but thanks to chat on line (thank you so much, I always use and abuse the chat on line staff...) I got this model that is more a skiing/sports shape and also the SV model showed some "hood" complaints on the reviews. The hood on this model is great , the skirt the length... Still one only suggestion is that it had more pockets. My husband (we have two kids) is the sherpa of the family, so to carry power bars, radio, maps, warmers, turtle neck he felt a lack of pockets. So what he basically does is... On very cold days he used this model. In less cold days he used the The North Face ST Apogee Jacket that we purchased form backcountry 4 years ago, that has no insulation but great wind protection + hundreds of pockets.... BTW my husband is 1,93m. and storng so I got him an XXL...
I just got my Titan jacket, surprised its made in China not Canada, for those of you had this jacket, where is yours made in, also mine is solid black not black and gray shown in picture.
My Titan jacket is made in China. Its workmanship matches that of Patriot SV and FISSION AR jacket, which are made in CANADA. It is very warm and I like to wear it causally. I prefer to wearing a fleece pullover and a GORE-TEX shell during exercise, instead of the Titan jacket.
I live in Anchorage Alaska and unlike my colleague from Fairbanks (where they have real winter), our weather varies from rainy with slushy snow to -20, all within a week or less. I bought the Titan to cover for those days in which waterproof winter wear was necessary to dove tail into the next deep freeze. The Titan does this very well. Light enough to drive around town comfortably and capable of withstanding the wishy washy rain/slush stuff, it stands up well to real cold temperatures as well. I use the Titan to do the usual winter errand "urban" things (grocery shopping, bank, post office, etc) as well as skijor, backcountry snow shoe, crosscountry skiing. Easy to pack and light, but still plenty warm for relatively less strenuous activities. The perfect jacket for Lower 48 folks planning an Inside Passage cruise during the beginning or end of the tourist season. Will cover the rain and still be warm to counter the brisk ocean winds and sub-freezing late afternoons and early mornings. Only drawback is the limited stash ("handwarmer") pockets which grudgingly accomodate a stocking cap and gloves when you don't need to wear them but want them closeby. The price is steep but you get what you pay for. I've worn down jackets less warm which hike up above your waist and crowd your shoulders and neck when you sit down to drive. The Titan has excellent waist adjustment which covers your butt and molds to the physical contour while maintaining warmth with comfort. I count it an excellent investment for better enjoying the winter wonderland of the Last Frontier. Been here over 30 years! The Titan is great coverage.
Bought this jacket for snowboarding in COLD conditions. This jacket is waterproof and toasty with just a thin North Face base Layer underneath. No need to wear anything else. Lacks bells and whistles such as pit zips but it's still an awesome jacket. First one had to send back after one wear cuz the pocket ripped at the seam; pretty disappointing for a six hundred jacket, but BACKCOUNTRY sent me a new one immediately which was great. I have had no problems so far. If u want 2 stay warm and dry with minimal layering buy it!
The best cold, cold, bitter blowing bone breaking cold weather ski jacket I have ever owned. It is truely great against cold & wind. For me it is best as a resort jacket & performs exceptionally well when I am just sitting on a lift or skiing runs back down to the lift. I probably would not wear it backcountry because it would be too warm during hikes. Nice pockets + the ever valuable chest pocket. Great sleeve length for my long arms & the wrist straps are perfect for going over even the bulkiest glove & securing down nicely. Length just covers my bum even though I am tall. Powder skirt is very nice. It is just a great jacket & for the price you get all the extras. Oh, Insulated hood that easily covers my helmet. The only downside of this jacket is the price but after inspecting the stitching, material & construction I think this jacket will last as long as I will.
I'm moving to Utah to ride/work at snowbird. I'm looking at the Titan and the Sidewinder by Arcteryx for a new riding jacket. What I am worried about is the Titan being too warm. Any riders out there experimented with this jacket?
I was at Snowbird today, and the Titan would be too warm for an everyday jacket, but they sure are sweet when it's super cold. I'd do a Sidewinder (or Stinger, which I prefer) and get the Tau pullover for underneath, that will cover you for most of the days at the Bird.
My husband says that he recommends that everyone who wants a really nice new jacket should marry a good woman.... :) (I bought him the Arcteryx Titan for a Valentine's present, with the advice of your staff and a little research on my own....) I would like to add that he looks very...I started to say "hot" but I guess that would be confusing. He looks GREAT in it.... OK, I'll admit that he also looked great before. We live in MD. He has also told me at other times that the jacket's nice and warm, and very light and comfortable. He always chooses it on all our cold days (high teens to low 40's).... It's also nice to know that I'll always be able to find him if he gets caught in an avalanche shoveling out our driveway or going to work or whatever.... :) Thanks for your help and best price, Backcountry....
So I'm looking into a new snowboard jacket. I know all the techincal aspects of the Titan and I really want to get it, but I was just wondering if anyone has it and used it. I know it is a new jacket for this year, but I was hoping someone from up north may have gotten it and used it.
I live in Fairbanks, Alaska (can't really get farther north and board) I don't have this jacket BUT I do have the Patriot Sv which by the sounds of it are the same jacket only Titan has insulated hood and Recco. Warm..... I wear this jacket with a base layer and tee shirt at 10 below and a down sweater under it at 50 below.....As for boarding I stop at 0 and it works well for that....if i am in the back country I unzip for hiking.
You probably won't need many layers under this jacket, and you may not even need pants. This is the warmest jacket I have put on my body. The 200g primaloft insulation is ridiculously warm and the gore-tex pro shell doesn't let any of that heat escape. It is completely water proof, even in fairly heavy rain, and in 60 MPH winds my torso was still sweating (while my face was crying). This jacket should be used in extremely cold situations, because it can get too hot when the temperatures are above freezing. The one downside to this jacket is that it doesn't have any pit-zips or core venting. But, if you need to stay warm and dry this jacket by far the best you can buy.
