The Arc'teryx Men's Theta SV Bib includes a tough face fabric over its Gore-Tex Pro waterproof breathable material for extra durability needed in harsh alpine environments. No matter how nasty the weather gets, this Arc'teryx bib takes it in stride thanks to a high-waist design and integrated gaiters. Waist-to-ankle side zippers let you put on this bib even when you're already wearing mountaineering or ski boots, and large ankles accommodate this oversized footwear. The Theta SV Bib also includes a gusseted crotch to increase freedom of movement and a front zipper to make it easy to answer nature's call.
Bottom Line: With the weather protection of the Arc'teryx Theta SV Bib, even the worst mountain storms feel like a light breeze.
These are great ski pants. I was a bit skeptical about their durability and toughness at first compared to prior models but the Gore Tex Pro Shell is like shark skin (much like their ads say). I just returned from a week of heli-skiing in Canada and these pants stood up to the abuse like a champ. We stuck to the trees mostly because the amount of snow kept things unstable and these things just laughed at the branches and what not that occasionally got in the way. They are highly breathable and even after 20 mins of breaking trail on a nasty traverse, my legs weren't all gross and sweaty (but I was working super hard). The high bib and suspenders are money, too. ArcTeryx knows what they are doing and these pants prove it.
These are the best pants I have ever owned. ARCTERYX knows their trade. A great value even at a grand. After having owned these pants for two years I would pay over a grand for a pair like this. They handle it all. Incredible value. Some may make fun of the potato chip bag sound they make, but they are truly missing out on this piece of incredible clothing item. I am so stoked and now have four of their jackets, two pair of their pants, their wool long underwear and two packs. Their stuff is bulletproof and bomber proof. Simply the best company I have seen working in the ski business for the last 28 years. I have seen it all and this is the best gear for the money. I cannot stress enough what good quality means when you are stuck in the outback at dark being forced to sleep in a treewell for the night or dig out a snow shelter. As they say about Porsche Cars, There is no substitute.
Write your question here...In comparing the Theta SV to the Stinger I am confused about the fabric. Does the Theta SV have an additional protective layer that the Stinger does not? Or are both materials the same?
The real difference between the Arc'teryx Stinger Bib and Theta SV: fit; Stinger have a fuller cut in the legs. Features; Stinger has thigh pockets, and thigh vents, as opposed to full length zips on the Theta SV. Both use the stretch-woven back panel that breathes well, but still sheds show- it's the same fabric used in the Gamma MX, but with a slightly lighter fleece backing.
When comparing the Stinger to the Theta SV, these bibs are very similar in performance both being constructed of GoreTex Pro. The difference simply is the Stinger has a short area replaced by Polartec® Power Shield® on the bibs back under where you jacket will lie. This offers increased breathability, were the Theta SV is all GoreTex
yeah, these are expensive, but the little features (especially the full length side zippers) make these bibs worth spending the extra cash. i have worn these things on waterfall ice and scraped them up worming through rock chimneys on alpine routes, and they appear to be indestructible. add that to the fact that they're backed by the ironclad arcteryx warranty and reputation and there's no reason to buy anything else.
I am a destroyer of shell pants. I enjoy cramponing through them, ski-edging them to shreds, sitting on gum, etc. etc. And these damn pants have withstood all the abuse and still look fantabulous. This is 5 years after I bought them! 100s of ski and climbing days on multiple continents and very poor care by me have still resulted in a great pair of pants. When I bought them, I thought that they were the most expensive pants I'd ever owned. Now I know that they are actually the cheapest!
I had a pair of the theta sk's which I bought last year and loved and unfortunately they got lost in a move. Is the the sv the closest thing in comparrison to them. Does anyone know anywhere that has left over sk's from last year, also I liked that mine were in a slate blue color instead of the same old black, also the picture on bc is different from arcteryx's website which one is correct?
The theta SV is the "new" SK.Basically the same pattern but with Gore-Tex Proshell instead of XCR, which is lighter and a bit more breathable, more durable on the inside. Fabric on the SV is less likely to get fuzzy and sheds snow better than the SK, but is still tough. Only comes in black though. Check the Stinger bib for the slate color. Similar design, but the Stinger is a bit fuller cut and has thigh vents, instead of full length zips.
Not just top of the line they are on their own line. I love the bibs I am a snowboarder, thatâs right a BOARDER. Sorry skiers I wear your gear too! That aside I love these pants the full length zips are awesome for hiking and let some heat out, be carful on sunny days though, my legs went from white to red. The Proshell is the only way to go. I got a tall xl and I am 6 2 and they actually fit a little baggy. They are good pants have about 30 days of riding on them and they donât show any wear yet. I like the two little pockets up on the bibs nice for keys or MP3 players, they are really nice for batteries to keep them warm while touring. In late spring hanging out on the mountain sitting on my but cooking lunch there was never any water that soaked through. I highly recommend them! They give good movement and donât constrict me at all.
These pants are the bees knees. They fit really well and the design features are spot on (reinforced cuff, side zippers, etc). The new Pro Shell fabric works super well too; it's the most breathable hard shell i've worn. Overall, i'm really pleased with them.
This is the first pair of bibs that I have bought for skiing and I have to say that I an sold. Living in the mid-Atlantic, I don't often get the chance to ski in deep powder. Even so, I appreciate these for eliminating the cold spot at the waist, not to mention all of the other things that I have come to expect from Arcteryx gear like high-quality construction and great fit. They are very comfortable to wear and the articulated knees make them as easy to walk in as your favorite pair of pants. I haven't cut the material yet with an errant ski edge after a full season if use, so the duranility of these pants seems to be good.
I don't penalize good gear for being pricey, but I get sticker shock when I see the pricetag on this stuff. Be patient and catch it on sale - you won't regret buying these!
Well i have the old theta SK and couldn't imagine a better. however, i am sure arcteryx can make anything better. there must be something in the water up there in Canada, these people make some damn good gear.
Great pants for skiing and mountaineering in NH and VT. Have used them a few days now and I love them. A few comments though. First, this is a hard shell, so wear some really warm tights under them. Regular bottoms were not warm enough for really cold freezing temps here in New England. Second, I can tell unfortunately that they are not completely unbreakable: already got a little scratch from tree skiing (granted it was a serious wipe out...). No big deal but for >$400 pant, I expected stronger material. And last, but this is cosmetic, the fit is a bit baggy (got the S/Tall and I am 6'0 for 175 lbs).
felt like a space suit. In vermont in snow sleet rain and ice. -20 wind chill and nothing, wind or water, got through it! bottom line thats all that matters. If you can afford it get it. There is no beter pant out there!
after trying pants from multiple other high end companies i am in love with these bibs! they are extremely breathable and completely waterproof. i have been abusing them for over a month in various conditions snowshoeing, boarding, hiking, skiing, you name it. i have never stayed so dry on warm days (30-40 F) and so warm on extra cold days (0_-10F). full leg zips and awesome gaiters make these one of the best out there, no wind or water infiltration either! you'd be doing yourself a dis-service by passing these pants up
I must say I absolutely love them! So far I have 20 days in variable snow conditions and everything I throw at them they continue to perform! The stretch fabric on the back breathes extremely well during short hikes! The full length side zips also help manage temp's during up hill pursuits! I ski alpine and tele and there is plenty of room when I feel the need to drop the knee! I was able to purchase my pair when they were on sale so I didn't have to swallow the big sticker price! Wait for them to go on sale and then pull the trigger, you will not be disappointed!!!!
These pants are absolutely bomber, they have held up to around 50 days of abuse now and look absolutely brand new. The only pockets are on the top of the bib, which is handy for keeping things like keys and your cellphone dry, but it doesn't make them very convenient with a jacket and/or beacon on.
The pant cuffs seem indestructible and have held up to my usual kicking off of my skis. I haven't felt any moisture come through the pants and absolutely love the fit of the XLs at 6'3 200.
I would highly recommend these pants to anyone, but I sure wish they had a leg pocket of some sort for hats/sandwiches etc.
