Arc'teryx Solo Insulated Jacket - Men's

At a weight of only 14.5 ounces, the Arc'teryx Men's Solo Insulated Jacket provides much-needed insulation for fast-moving ascents in cold weather. A single layer of continuous-filament ThermaTek insulation keeps you toasty at a rest break and ensures that the Solo Insulated Jacket has no cold spots to cause discomfort. This waist-length Arc'teryx jacket stuffs into its own internal pocket, so you can pack it away quickly and get on with your climb.

Bottom Line: Arc'teryx created the Solo Insulated Jacket for winter climbers who need a warm, lightweight top for demanding ascents.

You haven't said anything about what you will be using this for, but if you are skiing, I'd look at one of the Fury jackets, and if you are mountaineering/climbing, I'd probably look at the Gamma or Venta series of jackets from Arcteryx. In my experience the gammas are cut pretty trim, so for those you might need to size up to fit this underneath. The Fury jackets (AR and SV) are definitely sized bigger, so you should be able to order your normal size. I don't have any experience with the Venta's so I can't make a recommendation there.

i have a question about length. Is this a short jacket? Does this jacket fit normal? I am debating either this or the Norrona?

edit: so this would not be good as a stand alone jacket in the lower eastern Sierras? i don't want it to be too short and wind is always creepin up into it...

My Arc'teryx Solo hits just below the waist on my pants, so I consider it to be a short jacket. It's designed to work as a layer, so the length is cut this way so as not to hang out from your shell. One consideration in comparing; the Therma-Tek is an Arc'teryx exclusive fabric- water-repellent treated Primaloft. It's basically waterproof in that it will not absorb moisture, and the loft is extra resilient due to this treatment.

What is the temperature comfort zone of this jacket? I'm looking for something to use as a all purpose winter jacket in a windy subzero climate (winter time in Norway).
I have been looking at the Dually Belay Parka, but that looks rather bulky.

I'd go with the Arc'teryx Solo, as the Dually is cut to fit over all your layers, including a shell, when you're sitting at a belay. It's pretty bulky for daily wear. The Kappa SV could be another good option. Warmer than the Solo, and a longer hem.

I don't see that this has a DWR finish on it. How water resistant is it? Is it windproof or wind resistant? How does ThermaTek compare to Primaloft? As for weight of insulation goes, is 2.7 oz equivalent to say 133g of primaloft? I am not a mountaineer and won't be summiting 14k peaks but would like a warm jacket that is wind and water resistant and I like Arcteryx a lot. May consider the Kappa AR.

The Solo has a DWR on the face fabric, and the insulation is DWR treated as well (that's the difference between Therma-Tek and Primaloft-2.7 Thermatek and 133gm Primaloft offer the same loft). Face fabric is totally windproof.

Write your question here... I need something that will keep me warm and dry on my motorcycle in 30 degree weather. I also need pants to match, what would be my best bet?

This Arc'teryx Solo jacket would be a good jacket on a moto. I'd look at some Gore-Tex shells (top and bottom) for wet weather. The Arc'teryx Alpha LT may be a good option.
