Arc'teryx Scarab Jacket - Men's

For stop-and-go days of lift riding or backcountry touring, the Arc’teryx Men’s Scarab Jacket features Gore-Tex Soft Shell fabric that handles any skin track or pow stash you can throw at it, then asks for seconds please. The functional combination of stretch and waterproof breathable protection controls moisture like a champ while you’re slashing turns, and the added warmth of the High Loft Gore-Tex Soft Shell keeps you from freezing your ass off on sub-zero lift rides. Arc’teryx also added underarm zips for dumping excess heat and No-Liftr underarm gussets to stop the jacket from riding up. For deep inbounds days, the RECCO avalanche reflector adds an element of safety, and the stowable storm hood fits over your ski helmet.

Bottom Line: A warm, fully waterproof softshell for deep days in and out of bounds.

The Scarab jacket from Arc'teryx is super nice for lift and tram riding. It's made with a couple different types of fleece laminated inside. Highloft in the back and shoulders, for some good warmth, and lowloft under the arms, where it helps keep the bulky feeling to a minimum. I really like the soft feel of the Scarab compared to shell jackets I've been using for the last bunch of years, but it's still totally weather proof. Arc'teryx did a good job with the rollaway hood, it's easy to pull out, but doesn't feel like a neck brace when it's rolled away. I usually just wear a wool baselayer and that keeps me warm on mild days. I'd suggest getting a layer with a smooth face fabric (Tau or Atom are good), so it doesn't bind up on the fleece laminated inside
