The Men's Gamma MX Pant is Arc'teryx's award-winning classic softshell pant. Weather-resistant, lightweight, and stretchy Polartec PowerShield material matches your every move as you ice climb, ski tour, and venture into the high altitude. Integrated kick patches protect the Gamma MX Pant from ski edges and crampons, and a soft brushed interior adds warmth to this mountain-moving pant. *Available for US shipment only.
Bottom Line: The classic Arc'teryx softshell for all your mountain assaults.
As per normal with Arcteryx, the fit on these is perfect. They are not cut too long and are narrow without being tight or restricting....definately designed with climbing or backcountry users in mind....so if you are a park rat these are definately not for you. The weight of these is pretty low when compared to others, and the interior is minimal, which is very nice since it allows you to layer as needed rather than baking if it is warmer. I dont know why the tech specs says no for the belt, because there is a built in belt. Also very nice to find is a heavy duty patch at the inside of the leg to reduce pant shredding by crampons and edges. Overall these are the best technical pants out there.
I love these pants. I picked up a pair of these a few weeks ago and can't make myself take them off. The are super warm and you can move around great in them. I bought them to use for ice climbing and skiing. I have yet to get wet in them. I am 6'3" 190lbs and normally wear a 33-34" in the waist and a 34" long inseam. I went with the M/L and they fit me perfect. Have plenty of room in the waist due to the built in belt and the length is great. No more riding up. If you need a new technical soft shell this is the way to go. Love it.
Goaty, the Arc'teryx Gamma MX pants don't have an internal gaiter, but do have reinforced instep, and a cinch on the bottom cuff. These work really well to keep the bottom hem in place through snow, and lots of dynamic movement. Killer pant!
Technical fit and stretch material make this pant my favorite for back-country skiing and cold weather climbing. In any movement and condition they give you a great freedom of movement and tight fit. The lateral pockets design with very flexible material are the best seen on any pant. You can put your mask, gloves or anything else and they expand as you need yet they do not add any bulk to the design. As usual Arc'teryx has designed a great peace of equipment with a minimal yet effective approach. Last but not least, they have a great design. Pair them with Pac-Lite pants to be carried in your backpack for rain and storm conditions.
My favorite pants for BC skiing. These pants break the wind in all but the nastiest howlers, yet shed sweat. I have used these from 10-40 F degrees with no worries. The fit is class Arcteryx (slim athletic fit with great mobility) which works great for high stepping over logs, bushwacking and the joys of BC. So far I have not worn any base layer under these pants. I do carry a Goretex pant on hut trips or long day trips in case of wet snow, but so far everything has beaded up and fell off these pants. I would not recommend these pants for ski area skiing unless the temps were warm.
These are my favorite piece of gear clothing! The fleece lining feels great against your legs and provides great warmth. The gusseted crotch provides excellent mobility scrambling, or going over downed logs. I've hiked in these on a cold rainy day and they worked great, never even had to throw on waterproof shell pants, the water just beaded off these pants. They also make excellent spring ski pants, just did two days skiing in these and fell in love with them all over.
Great Pants. These fit great and I love the fact they make them in a tall size for lanky folks. I've worn these twice snowshoeing in around 0 degree F temps with only a light base layer under and they worked beautifully. The reason I chose these pants, other than the fact very few manufactuerers make tall soft shell pants, is the durability. I have an older pair of Gamma AR pants and I've abused them countless times and they've held up amazingly. Great quality pants.
Another great product of Arc'teryx. I loved wearing these pants. I was doing some crevasse rescue stuff and got a little wet though.. so maybe look into something that's got a little more waterproof-ness or get some Nikwax on there. Awesome pants.
I'm considering the Arcteryx Gamma MX pant and am wondering whether buy a Medium tall or large tall size. Regularly wear a 34" waist 33" inseam length pant. The MT is the right length but possibly too narrow in the waist whereas the large seems longer and wider than necessary. Any thoughts here?
i am normally a 34" waist and 34" length in most pants and i got a medium tall in these pants and they fit me wonderfully. the waist is definitely the max i could go down to but they stretch some so it's ok but i definitely need the tall inseam
Great for winter hiking, cold weather climbing and canyoneering. I could imagine skiing in warm temps in them, perhaps with a baselayer. Nice Stretch and drops of water bead and often roll right off them. Sizing: Slightly more room in waist than Arc'teryx suggests. I am 6'3", 37.5-38" waist and the LG tall was the best size for me. Fit is different than my Gamma AR pant,(also from fall 2008) which fits just as Arc'teryx sizing chart suggests (I am XL tall in that pant).
These pants are superb for ice climbing in moderately cold temperature. They are form fitting and stretch well for movement. My Gamma MX jacket is made in Canada, but these pants are made in China. That's the only big gripe I have about these pants. These pants work well even without wearing a base layer because the inside is fleece. A few more pockets would've been nice. Also, I wished the logo was embroidered instead of printed.
