Arc'teryx Atom LT Hooded Insulated Jacket - Women's
Arc’teryx crafted the Women’s Atom LT Hooded Insulated Jacket with extra warm Coreloft insulation on the main body and breathable Polartec Power Stretch panels under your arms so things won’t get muggy when you perspire. A femme-friendly cut, articulated elbows, and gusseted underarms make this just the thing for mountain mamas to head to alpine elevations on days cold enough to break the thermometer. Your ears will thank you for the insulated Scuba Hood that fits under a ski or climbing helmet. The Atom LT Jacket’s outer face resists wind and water, but on truly soggy days, slip a hardshell over it for bombproof warmth and protection.
Bottom Line: A trim performance piece that combines insulation with breathability like no other.
I can't decide whether to choose from the Atom Lt Hoody or Hercules jacket for a mid-layer insulation piece for alpine touring. I get cold really easy and live in the northwest (near rainier).
Hey juy100402401, my friend "Rachel" owns the Lt Hoody by arcteryx and LOVES IT. I have stolen it a few times to run out to my car in some gnarly conditions and it is very nice. I have seen this jacket used in action at temperature around 10˚ F and if layered properly, you are bomber. Both of the jackets are "water resistant" according to Arcteryx, and this has never been a problem for friends, but in truly extreme squalls, throw your favorite shell over this and you are good to go! Another great thing about this jacket is the mobility factor, its easy to forget that you are even wearing a jacket when this thing is on. Its not restricting in the least. Good Luck!

This is one classy jacket. Its incredibly flattering, well cut, dare i say tailored? It has these amazing stretchy panels on the sides and underarms, and the cuffs are really well done. The thing feels better than a second skin. In spite of this, I returned it. why? well it's just so light weight I don't trust it to be warm enough all by it's onesies for 30 degrees and below. Maybe im just too used to my 5yr old 10lb north face gortex insulated number. Plus, I saw the Golite Reverb on sale for half the price and snatched that up. The reverb is sturdier looking and just feels tougher than the atom. By all accounts the atom lt is actualy very warm and sturdy, maybe I'm just not ready for the technology where such warmth comes from something so light weight, silky smooth, and attractive. If you get this (and i recommend you do if you have the dough), you should probably also have some sort of a fleece layer underneath for hellishly cold days. and as for sizing, I'm 5'8, 120 lbs with very long arms and broad shoulders, and the medium was roomy. I'd say you could size down on this one.
I live in an area where it can be between 15-30 degrees in the winter. Would this keep me warm in those temperatures or should I go with the Arcteryx Kappa?
It depends on what you plan on doing while wearing this jacket. Just standing around? Casual wear? Probably not (I wore mine over just a t-shirt to go shooting in 30-40 degree temps yesterday and was a little chilly after about 45 minutes). But if you're going to be running, snowshoeing, cross country skiing or something equally active, you'll be fine. This jacket really was built for more active pursuits (love the underarm stretch panels!), but with a shell could be just what your looking for in that temperature range.

Why do you think they call it the atom? it's supposed to weigh nothing - It's a technical layer for the backcountry.
