Arc'teryx Acrux 65 Backpack - 3900-4270 cu in - 2007

Arc'teryx made the Acrux 65 Backpack with 4090cu in of waterproof storage and a low 4lb 3oz (regular size) weight for alpine climbers casting off on massive 4-day-or-more routes. Seam-sealed VaporTight fabric and a roll-top closure make the Acrux 65 backpack completely impermeable to any mountain storm. The lid, dual aluminum frame stays, and molded Binary Hippods are removable for your ultralight summit push. Pre-molded shoulder straps add to this Arc'teryx pack's comfort, but it's the ability to keep your sleeping bag and down jacket dry for five days straight that makes the Acrux a favorite. *Available for US shipment only.

Bottom Line: Bring the lightweight, waterproof Arc'teryx Acrux 65 Backpack on the five-day alpine assault you've been training for.

What is the waist size range for the tall? Someone told me my 31" waist would be fine but on REI it says the range is 37 - 42 in. Which seems kind of big. Does anyone know if my 31-32 in waist will work with a tall?

no it will not fit, i had the same question having a 32-33 waist and i got it and had to send it back because full tightened it felt fine till i put all my gear in it, and with all that weight it wont hold onto that skinny of hips

I went to REI and they didn't have one in stock to try on, but they had a Bora 95 tall and it fit. Are the belt systems the same?

Bomber

By: Backcountry.com Sponsored Athlete
January 2, 2009

I used this bag last winter and it is so simple and bomber. The material is very durable and doesn't shred under my ski edges.

When it rainy you don't have to worry. Or when we were canoeing across for witer ski touring missions I knew that all my camera gear would be dry regardless of the waves splashing over the boat.

Downside of it being so water proof is that condensation builds up and you have to dry it out.

It will last forever.

There isn't a recommended weight on packs. It will carry as much as you can (it won't break, but you might), but the more you put in it, the less comfy it gets. I'd say a reasonable load for this pack is in the 60lb range. as a general rule, it's recommended you not carry more than 1/3 of your body weight.

Acrux 65

By:
October 16, 2006

I was looking for a lightweight pack. Despite the fact that my old one is more than 15 years old, nothing was as light as it (Karrimor Alpinist), apart from the GoLite which looked too flimsy. The Acrux 65 was the next best, but is still 0.5kg heavier. When looking at the pack, it is surprising it is so light, given the large amount of heavy waterproof material. The closure is very waterproof, and the whole pack stayed dry during a snowy backpacking trip. The negatives are the narrow bottom of the pack, which makes it hard to fit a sleeping bag in across the bottom. Also, the rubberized inner surface makes it hard to slide things down to the bottom. It could do with a compression strap on the large top lid. The positives: lightweight (relative to the competition), very comfortable, and very clean external design.

What's the difference between the Arc'teryx Naos 70 and this one? Is the Naos much better for backpacking?

well that and this is an alpine climbing pack whereas the naos is specifically for backpacking and/or trekking. know that the hip pads on this are connected only by straps unlike the naos

The regular size of the Naos is 70L to the Acrux's 65. So it's a bit bigger for when you need that extra space.

Last pack I will ever need to buy

The Acrux is built so well, I really do expect it to last forever. Super Durable, Great Pack!! Initially I was sceptical of its minimalistic waist belt/ suspension system, but has proven to handle loads very well. I couldn't be happier with the simplistic design, it is versatile/ functional and YES you can carry skis "A" framed, using the compression straps. Being completely seam sealed and waterproof does make this the coolest pack ever.

Does this pack have just the one access point through the top of the pack? ...or is there a vertical zipper that runs alongside the pack? -Can't exactly tell from the pictures.

yes just the top, it has a front pocket and of course the brain, but neither of them connet to the main compartment, as it would compromise the waterproofing

If you use the hydration capability in this pack, does it compromise its waterproofness? It looks like you have to punch a hole in the red plastic dot which seems to me like it would let water in.

With the red plug out and the hydration tube through water can enter into the pack. I believe you need the plug in to keep the water out.
