Arc'teryx Acrux 50 Backpack - 2620-2990 cu in - 2007

The Arc'teryx Acrux 50 Backpack answers your alpine climbing prayers with 2810cu inches of completely waterproof storage and a weight of only 3lb 11oz (regular size). Its seam-taped VaporTight fabric and dry-bag closure keep every drop of moisture away from your belay jacket, sleeping bag, and all other gear packed inside. The Acrux 50 Backpack is the perfect size for alpine routes that are long enough for one or two bivies, and its streamline design is ideal for technical pitches. This Arc'teryx pack uses pre-molded shoulder straps to keep you comfortable pitch after pitch. The lid, two aluminum stays, and the pre-molded Binary Hippods are removable for times when you really need to shave ounces. *Available for US shipment only.

Bottom Line: Load up two days of food and three days of fuel in the Arc'teryx Acrux 50 Backpack, and walk out of base camp on another alpine adventure.

This pack would work great for that, but it doesn't have a ton of padding for carrying heavy loads. This makes the pack better for stripping down. I carried the Naos on a recent trip up the Grand Teton, and it was great, from the approach with lots of weight, to the summit with ropes and clothes. The fabric is super tough and totally waterproof on either pack.

So worth the money!

I saved up my milk money until my bones cracked. This pack is the hydrogen bomb. It takes an evening at home to get the stays to fit right, but once you've put in the effort, the pack fits better than OJ's glove. The Arcteryx website has a great guide on how to bend the stays to conform to your back. I'm 6'4" so I got the tall model, again the Arcteryx website has a good fit guide to help you choose the right size.

Really depends on your style of camping and the gear you're carrying. I am packed for a 3 day trip to rocky mountain national park and I was able to fit everything (barely) in my 50 liter Atmos pack. I am a minimalist and my pack is weighing in at 29 pounds including food and water. For winter camping I have a larger Naos 70. This gives more room for layers and a bigger sleeping bag.

Great pack, I have it int the 65 tall. This thing will last. thick durable and waterproof. If you don't use a hydration system you may get annoyed since there are no side pockets for water bottles but other than that it is an awesome pack. If you can find it on sale then it is even more gravy.

Acrux 50 backpack

First rate workmanship, waterproof, and innovative concept. Don't let the "50" fool you—it unfolds to what seems 1.5 times a 50-liter volume. Combined with short sleeping bag, insulation and an outer shell, could be used as part of a bivy. Bulletproof. Expense is my only complaint.

I am considering this pack because of its versatility...as school let's up I intend to do more overnight trips...I already know this bag would be stellar for these as a friend of mine has one...however I also do some whitewater kayaking and am interested in going on a couple overnight trips a year...how waterproof is this bag? Has anyone possibly submerged it for say 5-10min? I'm wondering how dry it would be if I have to bail out of my kayak and the bag ends up swimming a while...Thanks for your help,Tim

Hey whats up man. Im currently a guide on the chattooga river in georgia, i bought the acrux 50 not long ago and it doesnt get any better as far as water proof. It does feel a little strange at first, but you will get used to it. i (unfortunatly) swam at on the narrows on the green when i got sucked into a hole and my pack was sumerged for a while before it was spit out and i chased it down river, and everything was dry. good choice on the pack.

Arc'teryx Acrux in the alpine

I can’t even come close to describing how great this pack is. After years of suffering under a lightweight frameless pack, I gave up and went for this thing. Not only is it a pound lighter than the Cold Cold World backpack I was using, it supports loads better (no more jacked back), and it’s WATERPROOF. I was sure it would feel fragile, but this pack is actually really burly. I’ve even been taking on desert climbing trips without worry of it getting trashed. The profile is pretty tall and thin, so it’s a little different to pack. It’s also a bit tough to overload, as the top strap barely makes it over the top when this thing is full, but that’s a pretty easy fix. You’ll get use to the roll top pretty quick, though it feels strange at first.

It might work for some people, but be warned that the hip belt on this pack, and all the acrux packs, is quite minimal, so you'll be supporting a lot of the weight on your shoulders. So I suppose it depends how much weight you're carrying.

It would work as far as functionality, but it's not that big. Depending on how light you pack, It'll probably only be good for about 4 days of gear/food. "Extended" to me says more like 7-10 days, in which case I'd look at something in the 55-60 liter (3300-3600 cu in.) range.______________IMO, if you plan on using a backpack for being in the wilderness for 7-10 days, unless you can pack really light, I'd look at a pack that has at least 4500 cu in capacity. This pack would probably work well for an overnight trip, but based on it's size, that's as far as I'd be willing to go.
