Atomic Janak Telemark Ski - 2007

Prepare for float, float and more float with the Atomic Janak Telemark Ski. At 99mm underfoot this lightweight powder hunter takes you to the steep and deep without weighing you down. The Janak's magnesium construction, smooth flex, and lightweight strength provide massive floatation while still allowing you to lap all your buddies lugging heavy fatty planks. When you're exploring the backcountry without a lift for miles, the Atomic Janak Telemark Ski is both light and wide enough to keep you from sinking into the fluffy stuff like Artax in the swamps of sadness. The Janak's rigid torsional flex gives you plenty of strength for bulletproof snow and the occasional jaunt in-bounds while the gentle side cut helps you lay down tight lines in anything from powder to corn.

Bottom Line: Big on everything but weight, the Atomic Janak Telemark Ski is ready to kill the steep and deep.

Very Good but not Great

I skied these with Hammerhead bindings and Scarpa T1s which seemed to work well. They work great for powder and likely for crud as well. The width combined with mod to high stiffness can be demanding on groomers/hardpack and tend to gravitate toward the fall line more than carving. Probably more suitable for skiers who like to ski big, hard, and fast. I wouldn't consider this eligible for a "one-ski quiver."

Amazingly Versatile

I bought these skis and mounted them with Fritschi Freerides, intending to use them for backcountry and deep powder days in-bounds. While they remain my only backcountry ski, I find myself using them in-bounds at least 50% of the time as well. Anytime the snow conditions are questionable, this is the ski I grab. There is no such thing as bad snow on these skis. Windpack, crud, slush, mank, you name it, these skis can handle it. They're fairly soft in the tip, so they keep you on top. But being Atomic, they also have amazing lateral stiffness and edge hold, even on ice. Oh, and did I mention that they are light enough to go up as well as down?

nice bc ski

they are very light, yet power their way through crud. i really like the combination of a soft flex and torsional stiffness ... i've found that mounted tele, they ski long .. I'm 185 lbs and ski the 173 (also tried and enjoyed the 163).
