Atomic Janak Telemark Ski - 2005

Light, wide, and ready to ride. Float the wicked white in Atomic's Janak Telemark Ski with its Ultra-FAT-Geometry. This Beta fatty (129/99/117mm) delivers ultimate floatation without sacrificing an ounce of precision or stability in harder snow conditions. This ski has a light swing weight but is still very stiff torsionally. Atomic achieves this through their beta construction, which is designed to control power in every zone of the ski. They also added an ultralight Magnesium cap for optimal flex and dampening without any weight penalty. The ski's low swing weight means you can rip quick turns in deep snow and still get good edge hold when you make your way onto the groomers. You'll appreciate this on backcountry tours when you hit move from soft and fluffy to hard and heavy snow.

Bottom Line: The big-mountain ski made for deep days and backcountry adventure.

Janak muy bueno!

These skis rule. I have the Teledaddies also; these are perhaps a touch lighter. Insane powder and crud ski, ripping fast and stable through mank. This is a 1-ski quiver; the only skis I use in Utah (The Teledaddies are now my rock skis).

Powder Weapon

The Janak performs as well in powder and crud as the (extremely heavy) Dynastar Pro Rider but weighs much less and is therefore much more appropriate for touring. It's also a stiff ski that holds very well on frozen or boilerplate conditions. All in all, it's an ideal backcountry ski for locations with lots of snow, like the Wasatch.

Strong Backcountry Performer

Although I have only been able to take out my Janak Skis a few times this year, they have so far impressed me. On harder conditions, they hold an edge quite admirably for a 99mm waist ski, and allows me to stay in control on steeper aspects. As I am on a 183cm, and am 5'7" (150lb), I believe that some of my apprehensions with this ski stem from the size being slightly large for myself (I am learning to parallel with this ski, though am psyched to grow into it). Mounted with Freerides, it is still very light, though also allows a high degree of control and reliability on more committing aspects. My BD Verdicts seem to do better in deep snow, though this is probably due more to my lack of technique, vs. the Janak’s abilities. I highly recommend this ski.
