Atlas 9 Series Snowshoe - 2008

Strap on the Atlas 9 Series Snowshoes and go for a hike on those bluebird days or full-moon nights. The durable toe crampons and stainless steel heel cleats give you sure-footed traction on moderate terrain. Atlas designed the Wrapp bindings with separate molding for your right and left foot so your feet stay comfy, and a one-piece web loop gives you a secure fit with one easy pull. Plus, the 9 Series Snowshoes' Spring-Loaded Suspension system absorbs impact and recycles your energy back to your feet, so you can go farther without getting as fatigued.

Bottom Line: Get out and cover some snowy ground.

My dad really wants snowshoes for christmas and I just have no idea where to start. I have been reading that the Atlas are good, but then there is the 9 series that says it is good for moderate terrain and 10 series for all terrain. He is pretty much a beginner and I don't know what would be best for him, or if Atlas is good for beginners.

Great with waterproof pants, terrible without

As with all atlas snowshoes, the equation is simple. If you are wearing snow or rain pants that cover our boot, they are fantastic! If you are NOT wearing snow or rain pants that cover your boot, they are terrible. The suspension system that attaches the binding to the deck makes them easy to walk in and quite manouverable, but it kicks up a ton of snow on the back of your legs which will collect on/in your boots, making for a miserable experience unless you have the proper pants. Do not under estimate how irritating a constant barrage of snow to the back of your legs can be! To give you an idea of how much show these kick up, if you start running in them in some snow conditions, the snow will actually go over your head and land in front of you!

Look here - I reccomend MSR lighting accent women'shttp://www.backcountry.com/store/group/265/Womens-Snowshoes.htmlAnother option – I’ve only used Atlas Snowshoes and haven’t tried the MSR Lighting accent as mentioned above. I highly recommend Atlas Snowshoes the Spring-Loaded Suspension is phenomenal plus I like the V-shaped frame great for performance and it gives it that classic touch. The Atlas Trail Walking Series 8 through 10 are a great snowshoe for a variety of terrain, if you’re planning to be in the backcountry hiking I would recommend the Atlas 11 or 12. Also sounds like you have some experience if you’ve been renting, in that case I would recommend checking out the Atlas 10 Series this is the perfect all duty snowshoes works on any terrain. Best of luck and happy snowshoeing RP
