Atlas E10 Series Elektra Snowshoe - Women's - 2008
Atlas designed the Women's E10 Series Elektra Snowshoe for a gal's stride. These snowshoes provide floatation, traction, comfort, and natural foot articulation. The ergonomic bindings support your arch, cradle your foot, and are amazingly easy to get in and out of. Strategically integrated padding insulates your foot and increases your blood flow, keeping you warm and comfortable. Atlas' patented Spring-Loaded Suspension maintains your natural ankle articulation and eliminates heel rotation so you use less energy and maintain a stable, secure stride over difficult terrain. Stainless-steel All-Trac toe and heel crampons and Traverse Trac side rails offer reliable traction over varied terrain.
Bottom Line: Why haul around huge, awkward snowshoes?
Maybe I walk funny, but I kept hitting the back of the opposite snow shoe with the back of the snow shoe each time I walked. It was really annoying hearing the clunk each time I walked...Maybe they were too long? Anyhow, I ended up returning them. They also kicked up a lot of snow as others have mentioned in their reviews.
These are great all-around snowshoes, but I have a couple problems with them. As one other reviewer mentioned, I have noticed there tends to be build-up of ice and snow under the ball of your foot even if they are on correctly. This is a little annoying since you have to take them off to get the ice/snow out. They do also kick up a fair amount of snow, but all snowshoes do that to some degree. It doesn't really bother me. If either of those points are problems for you, I would look for a different pair, but for me these are great! The traction is amazing even on extremely icy hills. I have never slipped once. They also are a great shape for women so you don't have to walk a little awkwardly like in some other snowshoes.
I'd never snowshoed before, but I demoed a pair of the Atlas E10 Series snowshoes while I was on vacation in Colorado. The shoes fit pretty well over my boots and were relatively comfortable, though I have nothing to compare them to.
I have two complaints, though, but they're not too bad. First, these tend to kick up a lot of snow in the back, leaving your butt and the backs of your legs pretty chilly. Luckily, it was a warm day, but it was pretty annoying. Second, I found that after a while there was a ton of snow stuck between the bottom of my boot and the footbed of the snowshoe. I'm fairly certain I had it on correctly and was strapped in tightly. The extra weight of the snow and the slippery surface of it really made walking difficult.
I bought these snow shoes expecting to wear them without snow pants for a casual hike in the snow and they were completely useless in this case. They kicked so much snow up onto the back of my pants, it was hard to stay excited about the hike with sopping wet pants and a cold bum!
We've now had the chance to go out quite a few times. My wife has only one complaint and that's with the color. Aside from that, they're comfortable, work really well with a womans strides, the fit is great, quality is excellent too. Would I buy the same ones again? Definitely!
Have used them for 1 season so far and love them! Super easy to get on and off. Lightweight.. great to use for breaking trail or hiking on packed trails. Wearing snow pants keeps you dry from the snow kicking up from the shoes.
I did a lot of research before choosing Atlas snowshoes. I got them in the mail, pulled them out of their box and I have to say that I was immediately impressed with their quality, materials and design. We'll try them out this weekend out in the Alps and I'll report back on how well they work.
