The Armada ARV Alpine Skis are as tough as park boards, as stable as big-mountain sticks, and far cheaper than buying two pairs of skis. With a little added strength for stability at high speeds, the ARV tears it up anywhere on the mountain. Think hefty dimensions, durable but light core, extra-thick, heat-treated edges, and super-tough base material. Get spinny in the backcountry and know that the ARV's full twintip tail has your back. Billy-goat over sharp pointy rocks with the confidence that your boards will remain stable underfoot, thanks to high-density wood reinforcements along the core's edges. Once you're in the untouched chute of glory, the progressive tip shape will help the ARV float to the top, while the solid flex begs to accelerate.
I am a freestyle telemark skier. These are plenty wide and from what I have heard, soft enough for tele. I was wondering if anyone had any opinions about mounting tele bindings on these skis.
I've never seen anyone ski these tele, but I'd say go for it (I know a few people who ski them alpine and like them). However, I'd be aware of where you mount because of the twin-tip. Check out this article on mounting tele bindings on twin-tip skis that I found helpful for mounting a pair of Kung Fujas last season. http://www.telemarktalk.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=6569&highlight=twin+tip+average+centers
I'm 5'8" 155 lbs. I don't ski a whole lot of park but like to hit the park for a few hours from time to time. Spend probably 30% of the day backwards. I mostly ski groomers, when available pow and bumps. Does anyone have any good recommendations on another ski and length?
i ride the 4frnt MSPs, which are a pretty similar ski to this that does very well on groomers. floats okay through pow, but since i'm a big guy skiing 79s, (a bit short for me) i'll be adding another ski to my quiv. However, these, the Line Prophet 90s, or the MSPs are some of your best all mountain, resort ski choices. length wise, probably something mid 70's.
I understand that Armada ARV's are alpine skis but I tele and I wanted a good ski for freestyle tele. This is it. I mounted my Black Diamond 02's and went at it. I would describe the set up perfect in every way.
Im looking for a pair of skis if you have any suggestions let me know. Im 19 years old 6ft 1in about 210lbs. I grew up skiing but broke my leg when i was younger so i switched to snowboarding now i want to get back on a pair of skis. I live out in the East Coat.
See my post above, these, for the price, are a great choice. the 85s would be a good length for you. Otherwise, 4frnt MSPs, and Line Prophets are a good bet. Stay with a width of around 90 mm, as your east coast ice will likely eat you up on anything wider, but these should still destroy any pow dumps you get.
I fell in love with this ski on the first run I took it down. Stiff enough to rip some turns and soft enough to float the powder. The top sheets scratch about as easily as wet cardboard. After about 5 days the edges are pretty damn chipped. Fortunately, I am not too concerned about the aesthetics and will continue to ski the poop out of these things.
What to get... I'm 155 pounds, 6'1" tall. I'm a snowboarder buying my first skis. I live in the British Columbia powder belt and will be riding "all-mountain" terrain. What size of skis am I looking for? 175? Thank you
these skis only know how to shred. ride these mainly in the east with trips out west, have had them on ice at cannon and 2' fresh at alta and they kick *ss. they are super fun and playful through the trees and groomers and the graphics are super stylish.
i've skied the 2005 version of this ski in the 175 and was wondering how the stiffness of the 2008 model in a 185 compared if anyone had skied them both i'd love to know. thanks
Try looking at the recommended. Also a certified binding tech could tell you too. But a good spot would be between +3 and +5 from trad. Any of those three should be alright for 60% park.
This ski is a kick ass durable every day ski. I've got something fatter in my quiver, but this is the go to ski for early season and all but the deepest pow days. Super bomber for me, no problems at all and they've definitely taken some shots so far this year.
Hey, I'm 6 ft and about 180. I was recommended 175 by a few peeps because I plan on using this ski mainly all mountain. I have the JJ's at 185 as well.
I was planning on using the ARV's in the park and on days where there was no new snow and some mogul runs every once in a while. Thoughts?
^^^^DUDE the same thing happened to my ARVs. I mounted them up on 11/12/08, i saved the receipt. They broke on 11/30. They had a crazy crack going along the letters from the A to the D, all the techs told me the ski was shot, I am waiting for a new pair as well, which I am defiantly selling. Very disappointed in armada after skiing on 05-06 ARVs for 2 years. They were REALLY fun while they lasted though.
Does nothing exceptionally well, but does everything pretty damn good. Been skiing these for a couple seasons, 6'2" 185 and I almost over-power the 185's. Suprisingly good arcing on corduroy. Good in powder and crud, but I prefer my 190 Gotama. Great everyday ski, but don't buy if your looking for a specialist ski.
ok so whats the main difference between the el rey and the arv??(not the fact that it is a touch fatter, i know this) i have been riding the el rey 171, 2007 for 2 years now, and was really impressed with the all mountain capability, pretty soft and float was more than expected, but when it came to bumpy chop, just a bit too soft for me. being an all mountain lover, and seeing quite a few people with this ski on the mountain, i began to wonder if this ski is more appropriate?? thanks.
Hi, two questions. . I'm 175 cm tall and I weight 70 kilos (150 pounds), advanced skier. Which size do you recommend: 165cm or 175cm? . Which bindings should I use with the ARVs?Thanks a lot
Just got some 185cm 07/08 ARVs two weeks ago and mounted a Dynafit TLT Vertical ST on top... As for Alpine Touring / randonnée they're still quite light for a 185 fatski I took them to some nice remote powder spots and ..... they're just floooooating! Perfect for big power-turns! Tried them also on some crispy ice and they're still good to handle.
I'm torn between these and the AR6s. I like being all over the mountain including the steep chutes, but I still like spending plenty of time in the park. I know that the AR6s are great in the park and groomers but can they handle the upper mountain? Also, how do the these hold up in the park? Both are great all mountain skis from what I have heard.
I own both AR6 and ARV. For park rats that center mount an AR6 it will sink in the backcountry over 8 inches os snow. If u mount it -4 from true center it floats better but spins and switch riding degraded. So AR6 is all mtn for the east coast....ARV's are as wide as u want to go for the east but u there are even wider skis out in heli land. AR6 has a tough park base, ARv has a faster all mtn base. For pow chutes use an ARV and be nice to it in the park.
I skiied last year's arv for about 10 days, 5 at the end of last season, 5 at the beginning of this one. after some minor rock damage, the ski split like crazy, along both edges the letters in armada are starting to pop out. it's like the edge is tearing away from the ski. i'm still waiting on word for a warranty, but the core is definitely broken according to two shop guys. and as a ski instructor, i've been high and dry for a week waiting for word on my skis. definitely not all they're cracked up to be on the toughness front. my K2's went through hell and back compared to this ski. i'd take a seth any day of the week, and my next pair i'm going back to k2, no doubt, that, volkl or movement
Hey,what are the differences between the last year ARV and the 2008/2009 ARV?I have the 2007/2008 ARV and my binding mount point is + 2 cm from midsole line.(binding salomon 614)Now I have a ANT for Pow and next year I will buy me a Armada Park Ski.The Pipe Cleaner. So now I would go with the ARV on the normal pistes and backcountry with not so deep pow.Should i change the binding mount point?
dimensions are the same so you should be fine mounting them in the same spot. the flex is a little bit stiffer compared to last years skiI heard the ski is 9% stiffer for 2008-09. For backcountry u may want to test your current mount before re-drilling but for deep pow u may want it to be -6 or -7 from true center or back on the factory midsole mark. Your current mount is for park & all mtn.
Hey, I have the 07 / 08 ARV's ( Koi carp graphics ) and havent skied them yet, taking them in park, piste and pow next weekend picked up a good deal....Anyhow was wondering how they were on groomers as i heard they were really chattery at high speed from a few people? Also do they tend to ski pretty short so a 185 twin similar to a 175 groomer basher?Cheers!!!
The arv are midsoft in flex so you will get chatter at high speeds on hardpack/icey conditions like all softer skis but will make up for it in softer snow and powder, they are a super fun ski. The 185 will feel fairly tru to length for a twin but are real easy to ski depending on what brand your 175's were the arv's might feel a little longer.
These skis are designed to be Armada's do anything ski. They handle pretty well any condition you want them to handle, especially groomers and hardpack. Hope that helped.
I would mount core center. You would really have no reason to put them forward at all. I have mine at core center and they are great in pow, on groomers, ice, I used them in a race league last year for fun. You can still take them in the park for a few jumps and rails, riding switch is still easy on them. Core Center in my opinion.I think what he meant to say is right on the recommended line from the factory. cord center would ski horribly all mountain. I think the recommended mounting point is 5 or 7 cm back and is the way to goI agre with Ty. 2008-09 ARV midsole mark factory seting is -7cm from true center as an all mtn backcountry ski.(Measure tip to tail and divide by 2 to get true center - 185 / 2 = 92.5cm) do not go more than -5 the ski will be good for swicth and park but your backcountry ride may suffer.... Core center is typically where the recommended line is at. That is always the terminology that has been used in the ski shops I have worked at. Hence why I said core center. When you say cord center you must be inferring true center? which would indeed be very bad for all mountain. I have have mine at core center (-7 cm) as stated above.
With a doubt go ARV, I skied the guns for about a season and a half and belive me the arv are far better. the only place the guns felt at home was in real soft snow or powder up to about knee deep. on groomers they chatter at speed, they HATE any firm/icey conditions. and forget about any park on them. even my bacons blow the guns away on groomers and there a powder ski. The ARV's are fun, light, carve really well, skipow and trees up kneedeep and do well in the park.Agree - just rode GUNS in BC pow. A real noodle out ski only for lightweight skiers and pow. Flimsey on hardpack. Guns need snow.
Depends on length and weight. 89 - 95 underfoot is pretty wide. If you think you might want a fatter ski for powder, get a size up from your normal. You'll have more underfoot and more length = more float. Just remember powder skis usually have much more float than park skis.
Can I get any Opinions? Which do you think is better as an all mountain ski but definitely dedicated to the off-piste the Armada ARV or the Line Prophet 100
With out a doubt the prophet 100,it is fatter, stiffer, carves like a gs ski and floats well in powder, rips trees, stable at speed, nimble enough for the park. maybe thats why it's considered the best ski made in the 100cm waist group. The ARV is a fun playful ski, but is a little soft for a tru all mountain ski unless you like soft skis. If you are looking for more off-piste performence go prophet 100. IMO the ARV's are not wide enough.
These two skis are totally different. The arv is soft and rips all over the mountain including the park. The msp is a stiff all mountain ski that rips groomers, ice and some park. Both are excellent skis it just depends on if you like soft skis or stiff skis. If I had to choose i would go with the arv's because they are more playfull and rip powder better because there softer.
