Arc'teryx used supple Gore-Tex Softshell material to give the Women's Stingray Jacket highly water-resistant performance with incredible breathability. Ski-specific features like an integrated powder skirt and helmet-compatible hood keep out the snow when you ride on a stormy day. A RECCO reflector may help ski patrol find you in the event of an avalanche. Arc'teryx used WaterTight zippers to give the Stingray Jacket every advantage against wet weather, and added no-lift underarm gussets and articulated elbows for full freedom of movement. *Available for US Shipment Only.
Bottom Line: The Stingray—Arc'teryx's high-performance ski softshell.
This is a jacket that delivers! It will cut 100% of the wind and it is so waterproof that water just pours right off of it. I used it skiing with layers underneath in 20 degree Colorado temps and I was warm and dry and on rainy days in California no water touches my skin. It has great insulated zippers and pockets all over. I got mine from backcountryoutlet.com and got a great deal. Highly recommend it. Bring on the bad weather!
Minimal, but well thought out. May only be water-resistant, but this jacket sheds water as if it's waterproof. It breathes well too so it's great for hiking & backcountry skiing. Best jacket I've ever owned. You get what you pay for. I'm an ARC'TERYX believer! My only gripe is the sleeves are 1" too long on size SM for an ave 5'4" woman.
The Arc'teryx Stingray Jacket is an incredible choice because it is completely versatile- can be worn in extreme weather conditions with proper base layers but also can be ventilated to be worn on the warmest of days. It has a powder skirt and is seam-taped so you will stay dry on a pow day or wet conditions.
Plus, the jacket is slim fitting, so it is a flattering fit, even with extra layers under it. True to size.
I'm a little embarrassed to be so enamored with an inanimate object, but, what the heck: I am head-over-heels for my Stingray jacket in Bermuda Blue. This is, in my opinion, the nicest looking ski jacket I've ever seen. The color is really vibrant, more so in person than on the computer screen. In fact, you'll be so recognizable on the slope that you may think twice about jumping out of bounds. Of course, beauty is not only skin deep with this jacket. The fabric has a very nice feel and excellent water resistance, the hood fits over my helmet with just the right snugness, the collar is high enough to keep my chin warm while hunkering down on the lift, the pit zips are functional while wearing gloves, and the pockets are accessible with my backpack on. The relaxed fit might not be very Euro, but I appreciate having plenty of room to layer, and that wouldn't really be my style anyway. Despite my rave review, there is *no way* I would buy this at full price (for budgetary reasons). Extend that radar for awesome sales on SAC and backcountry.com and you will be generously rewarded for your diligence.
Great jacket! I took this jacket on a short backpack trip to Southern Utah. This jacket kept me warm and dry on cold windy nights and is lightweight enough that it didn't add any bulk to my pack. The jacket is a great fit all over except for the sleeves are a little long. I was able to wear a lightweight fleece comfortably underneath. I am really impressed with this shell. You get your bang for your buck with this jacket!
This jacket is great!! I tried several before gladly purchasing this one. The sleeves are long enough to fit snugly over my gloves. The snow skirt and long back keep all the cold air out. The fabric repels water nicely. I can wear a light down jacket underneath without looking too bulky. This is a super jacket!!
This review is based on the medium size. The center-back is 27.5 inches long. The length of the front main zipper is 26 inches so it is longer in back than in front which made it good for sitting down because it did not ride up and helped keep the weather out while climbing and scrabbling. The sleeve length is 32 inches which is longer than a normal medium but great for tall women. The medium fits a tall size 8 perfectly. It is an athletic fit with room for a fleece underneath. The hood fits well, covers nicely, and stayed on with the heavy wind and snow. As an everyday jacket or a travel jacket it would be better with hip pockets, but it is design to use with a backpack. It kept out heavy wind, snow, and sleet with ease. The water beaded and just slid off. Lastly please remember it is just a shell, there is no insulation.
I first used this jacket in a semi-warm ski day when it was lightly snowing. I wore a down coat under it as I thought it would be a cold day. It turned out it was not that cold but, by using the pit zips I was able to stay the right temperature and stay dry with it was snowing. I normally wear a medium in clothing but the large was great as the arms were long enough.
The hood was large enough for me to fit over my head with my helmet which was nice when it was snowing.
This is a great shell but be wary of that white color, it gets dirty fast. I didn't love the chest high pockets in the front, but i wasn't with my pack that day, so it's a good feature if you ski with a pack or are ice climbing with a harness. I stayed dry and the wind was nuts and I was still just fine. My only complaint is the hood doesn't detach which I would have liked to have as an option. Otherwise a great piece of gear to add to your closet. If you order the appropriate size you have plenty of room for a layer underneath.
