Just the Jacket I was looking for! I recently bought the Marmot Warmlight Fleece Jacket looking for a day-to-day/performance layer but was unhappy with the baggy/full feel so I returned it and with the Maverick. I'm very happy with this choice since it was exactly what I wanted. The Maverick is everything they said it would be. Trimmer fit and sturdy construction make for a great layer that fits under a shell well to a perfect around the town jacket. Also it fits very true to size. Nice work with this one Arc'teryx. I would definitely recommend this jacket to a buddy.

I ordered this jacket to be a little bit more of a fitted fleece to go under my shell more comfortably, and it has worked out excellently. However, when they say it is fitted, they mean it. Don't order it intentionally too fitted. However, it has kept me incredibly warm, especially for its size. Definitely a good jacket to have.
Only other thing would be that it seems to attract hair and lint like substances very well.

i love the coat. i live in houston, tx and it's perfect for the winter months here. with a shell on top it's a great for layering on the slopes. as some have reviewed, it does not offer much in the way of wind protection. as another reviewer also said, the fabric is unique. mine has pilled somewhat in the year and a half i have owned it. the worst part though is that i own a white dog that sheds. this jacket absolutely soaks up dog hair and it's a pain to get it out. other than that, great jacket that i hope to keep rocking for awhile.

I received this fleece as a gift in December of 2006. This is my first experience with Arc'teryx and I have definitely become a fan. Very comfortable, lightweight and versatile. Great for a variety of uses. My only minuses are that it offers no wind protection, mine has pilled quite a bit after 9 months, and I am not a fan of the cinch system at the bottom. Other than these minor issues it is great!

This jacket is snug, but doesn't feel contraint. The fit and movement is perfect. The only negative is that the collar is too stiff. It pokes underneath my chin when look down slightly. They should have made the chin part a little softer.

In addition to several Gamma SV softshells, a Gamma MX, and a Sidewinder AR, I own three Maverick ARs, so it should be fairly obvious that I am a big fan of Arc'teryx. Although the Maverick is not the warmest fleece, the fit is outstanding and athletic, and will keep you cozy if you are reasonably "warm blooded". It is great for layering, and also looks cool. The only critical comment I have would be that it tends to pill after a while.

I order this one 2 years ago on a sell and I got it sent to me to N.Z
I then trek with it for about 3 months till late fall and was never cold. I am in between sizes so it's a bit big for me but I don't mind. My hard shield go on top of it with no problem. It's have good heat to weight rate and looks good. I spent last winter in Chicago and had 2 baselayer under it and my hard shield on top and in -20C I was nice and warm. It's hurdle peel. The only down side - it still a fleece jacket and there for take same space in my backpack, but less then my old fleeces. If you want a fleece jacket then the Maverick is the right pick.

Quite an incredible jacket - great cut, incredibly warm, and works well for both bushwhacking and a casual night in the city.

The one thing about it that was unexpected was the texture of the fabric. Not quite like anything I've owned before - and while it's as soft (if not softer) than most fleece, it looks a like a gunny sack. Look of the fabric aside, this was a great investment and I'll definitely be wearing it all the time once this endless summer of 2007 finally winds down...

Works great underneath a windproof/waterproof shell for winter temperatures above freezing. I have two Maverick AR Jackets--Grey and Black. Alternate with wardrobe! Great jackets!

I love the look, the fit and the warmth. Just remember this jacket is not windproof. Keep that in mind and you'll love this jacket.

This is a terrific jacket. For those of you with long arms like myself, you will find the slim-but-slightly-long fit of the jacket great. You might also like the way the jacket drapes nicely (with no overly technical cinching around the bottom, though there is a drawstring you could use if you wanted). The pockets lay nicely and the zippers are smooth and easy to use. Though slightly technical, the jacket is suitable for city wear (at least San Francisco wear). It is not as bulky as thick fleece jackets, but it does have pile on the inside and is not a very thin fleece. (The outside has a bit of a harder finish; not soft, but doesn't catch on things.) There is not much wind protection, and the jacket is a little too cold for 40-45 degree am's. It's probably better for upper 40's to mid 60's weather.

Despite what it the specs say I managed to pill the lower front of the fleece. Kinda expensive for a fleece that pills after a few months. I don't even run much, just a morning jog five days a week.

It's terrific as a covering over a T-shirt base layer. It's almost like another shirt. The thing I love the most is the soft felt lining on the chin guard. Props to that. Welded lining is also a plus.

It's fit for a "slim" person, meaning that it's almost like a wet suit if you're wearing anything long-sleeve under it. I'm a skinny runner (5'9" 145lb) so if a large is tight on me I can't imagine others wearing the same size. Although, I would believe anyone getting this high-priced of a "performance" wear is not a couch potato.

The only thing I wish for is more pockets. Oh well, that wasn’t what I bought it for, it’s supposed to be a base layer under my softshell.

Despite my huge concern about the pilling, this is definitely a great fleece.

I've worn it every day since I got it, from mild weather to single digit temps. Worth every penny.

I tried both the Maverick AR and SV jacket's and I'm not sure I would say either is worth the money. I chose the SV because I found a great deal on it, and found it's fit to be superior. I can deal with Arc’teryx pricing, but I expect every detail to be perfect!
The AR is a far lighter jacket and with that comes freedom of movement, it feels great on. Actually I could barely feel it at all. The only aspect about the feel of the jacket I didn't like was the collar. It was too tight, so that if I tilted my head back and then forward my chin would run into the collar. After experimenting with it for a while I decided it could become a real nuisance. The big problem however was its look, and if you’re out on a mountain who cares, but for this kind of money it better look good too. It seemed as if the zipper was causing the material to cinch upward so that the front of the jacket rippled outward. Along with that it just didn't have the super tailored trim fit I am used to, and love, with Arc’teryx.

I have had other fleece jackets in the past that were prone to pilling and boxy fits. This jacket is made with an anti-pill fleece, and has an athletic fit that that feels tailored, but is not in any way constricting. This jacket is quite warm for its weight, and it fits nicely underneath my Gamma MX softshell.

The only thing I have to add to all of the fantastic reviews is: If you want this jacket to last, you have to treat it right. My last Arc'teryx fleece got all screwed up when I forgot to take it out of the wash and line-dry it. It makes a huge difference. Using a dryer on anything other than air fluff by itself is asking for bunchy-fleece.

This jacket is fashionable, cut to fit, warm and it flattens out well. I've had quite a few compliments. The arms are cut to easily give you a full range of motion without the waist moving an inch. In high winds it doesn't keep you all that warm but in just a breeze it's still great. The jacket compacts well in the backpack and weighs almost nothing. Much better than The North Face Denali in less-extreme conditions.

I've always had an affinity for Arc'teryx gear, or at least, for as much of it as I can afford. I've been exceptionally pleased. The fit is snug all around - it's almost magic how it feels cozy with just a t-shirt on underneath yet is spacious enough not to feel constricting when it's got a couple of layers under it. The design is simple and functional - I don't feel as though any part of the jacket is extraneous or showy. The zipper has a nice interior flap to protect you from the elements and aid insulation, and the signature laminated pockets work smoothly and don't seem to leak heat. The jacket also runs a little farther down the back than the front; you don't find the back slipping up when you bend forward. All-round this is an excellent garment. It looks good, fits nicely, and performs as a layer or stand-alone. Just remember that it's not wind-proof.

Great jacket. As mentioned in other posts, its worth every penny. The fit is trim and when zipped up its snug on your neck to lock in heat. Get it, wear it, love it.

I bought this jacket as a layer and it did a great job keeping me away from the cold while skiing. I also wore it as casual wear by itself and it was quite comfortable plus it really has great looks. Although not windproof, it is definitely a great buy.

I have had "Maverick" only for a few weeks and California weather has been warm enough not to require an extra layer, but the jacket looks and feels great. I am happy with the product. WARNING: If you are using the jacket only over a T-shirt, I think it's fine to order your regular size, but if you plan to use it on top of a sweater, definitely order the next size up. I am a short and skinny guy, and small sizes usually are a little large for me, but "Maverick" did not fit at all until I ordered the next size up. There's no question this is a pricey item, but it is of a much better quality than other fleece jackets I have owned in the past... however, only time and more frequent use will tell.

Any Arc'teryx owner would be very happy to own this too. It has the snug fit for a great mid layer. The smooth texture of the Nailhead fleece makes it easy to put on and take off your shell. The Nailhead also gives a surprising about of wind resistance for a fleece without WindStopper.
