Alpina Control NIS Cross Country Touring Ski - 2007
The Alpina Control Nordic Ski is perfect for a beginner cross country skier. The lightweight ski is easy-to-handle and incredibly durable. Alpina built it with their Scuff Tuff top deck which adds durability and decreases the chance of snow attaching to the ski. The waxless ultra-grip base never needs any maintenance—just throw your skis in the car and head to the trails.*Requires NIS standard binding.
These skis are fabulous. I ski snowmachine trials and off trail. They are fabulous. I feel like a kid with a new pair of tennis shoes. They are light, stable, the bottoms glide with whatever condition, and enough of an edge to climb easily. I recommend them highly. Bindings mounted easily, came all the way to rural Alaska very quickly.
I am new to cross country skiing and need to buy poles, skis, bindings and boots. What are the general sizing guidelines for buying skis and poles? I am a 5 ft. 7 in. female and weigh about 150 lbs.
Do these skis require any sort of wax in warmer conditions? I know they are considered "waxless", but I was skiing in mid-30 degree weather last weekend (snow was very heavy and "melty") and it was clumping to the bottom of my skis, making gliding very difficult. A coworker said I needed wax, even though they are waxless. Any advice?
I have found the same problem from wet snow, I find that most buildup occurs in the traction part of the ski. I wax regulary & wipe down my ski after each use (give good buffing you will feel burs & scratches). Carry a small scraper with one flexible edge (for ice in traction section of ski), I cary Silicon in a small plastic bottle to apply to ski if necessary. I have found different waxes have very different reactionto wet snow. The worst seems to be wet snow to new snow & uphill. Good luck & have fun.
I just got these skis - I'm wondering if I got the right size, as the size chart here and the size chart on alpinasports.com seems to conflict. I'm in the 145 to 150 range and got the 162 cm (the smallest). Should I go up a size or am I ok?
I think at 250lbs, flex may be more important that length. You'll have trouble finding an exact match. Get the stiffest flex they make (usually only about 180-200lbs) and probably about 160 cm for nordic.
