Same shell, better stuff inside.

Any time is a good time for an impromptu dance party. And you didn't think you could get kicked out of a hotel with a portable Bluetooth 4.0 enabled wireless speaker! The rechargeable lithium-ion battery can run for up to 16 hours, so you can rock it at the crag or on the ski hill and kept the party rolling to the hotel or backyard. Pesky wires always seem to get in the way of your breakdancing routine, but the 2.0 has a wireless range of 32 feet, so wires or the shell itself won't be getting in your way.

I love my little turtle!!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Took this baby camping so that we could have music during our down time. It lasted the whole trip (4 days) and only needed to be charged once. I'm incredibly amazed with the sound quality. It's small and pack-able which I enjoyed the most but has a huge sound. I highly recommend this little gem if you want a quality speaker. Also the connectivity is awesome and it is 100% user friendly. I also use it to play music in the shower, while cooking, cleaning, studying and parties. Its waterproof so if your friend accidentally spills a beer or water or whatever liquid on it, Your speaker is safe and sound! Outdoor Tech is a great company too. They back up all their product so if you ever have issues hit them up and they will totally help you out!

It doesn't get much better.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is my second turtle shell after my original decided to take a dip in the lake. Outdoor Tech had me sold on the original turtle shell, and I didn't hesitate to get another. The sound quality is amazing, and easily puts any other speaker of this size to shame. If your looking to take the music with you from the backyard to campsite to the pool, then look no further.

Perfect Product!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought this about three weeks ago now and have used it outside at a large BBQ party, on the patio with friends, in my Jeep, and in my home. The speaker has been excellent in all applications and was MORE than loud enough - louder than a bear like it says on the box? I don't know but loud enough and clear enough to serve its function.
Things I really like:
1. Compact size allows to fit in anywhere, will fit on my Galaxy S3 phone and looks like a factory component.
2. Sound quality - clear and precise. Sounds as good as the track I am listening to can.
3. Volume - riding around in my vehicle the music and hands-free volume are great. I've been told I am more clear thatn when I use my wired headset.
4. Lightweight - I can drop this in my bag to carry anywhere and not notice it all.
5. Easy to sync - literally turn on your phone's bluetooth and turn this on. That's it. It works everytime.

This is an excellent product for my purposes. I did not want or expect a professional sound system but it EXCEEDS my expectations. Thank you Outdoor Tech for making exactly what I was looking for!

Is the charging cable the same as on the old version?

The Turtle Shell 2.0 uses a micro USB charger, which is different from the Turtle Shell 1.0 (mini b 8 pin).

Can you post a link to a charger cable for the 2.0? Having trouble finding the right one!

Nevermind- turns out I had the original Turtle Shell 1.0 THIS WHOLE TIME. Oops.

hook, line and sinker!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This speaker was purchased with a purpose. About a year ago, my whole car cd/radio/speaker system died. Since then I've resorted to various speaker rigging systems: iPhone in a cup, stolen laptop speakers or, my personal favorite, singing made up songs ultra loudly.
My boyfriend decided that in order to maintain his sanity and eardrums, enough was enough. It was time to invest. The boom box came in the mail on Friday and by Saturday at 7 A.M. we were on the road to Acadia National Park, which is roughly 6 hours away from where we live. This is important to mention before I say anything else: my car has no working AC (so if you want fresh air, windows must be down), sounds like it's missing the muffler, and my dog SCREAMS like a dolphin 50% of the time he's in the car. So when I say this, I mean it - this speaker rocks. I'm beyond impressed with its sound capabilities as well as its battery life. The device itself pairs easily with an iPhone 5 and 4S. Additionally, the boom box did not slide on the dash when driving around corners or go flying on incredibly bumpy roads. Outdoor Tech has brought my car back to life - AND saved my boyfriends' ear drums for a few more years. Now, if we could only get our dolphin-dog to stop screaming....

What the shell?

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Each time I use this little speaker, I become more and more impressed. The first time I heard the musical goodness flow from its spikey exterior I couldn't believe it. Surprisingly good bass for a little speaker (best I've heard compared to other speakers within the same price point), awesome battery life (I recharge it maybe once a week with moderate use), and just an overall cool setup. Really dig the water resistance and tough construction. One negative I've noticed is that the bluetooth range is definitely not 32 feet, and probably resides at about 20 max, but who cares? Overall, awesome speaker - Outdoor Tech is doing it right!

It's Awesome

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

just like all of the other reviews this is a great little speaker! i live in WA and I'm constantly outside working in the rain and it is water proof. Well for the rain lol it could have a little better bass to it but for the size and quality of the sound its perfect

We're Jammin

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This little guy jams! Bought one for a gift and decided to take it on a 'test run' in the desert. Now I have one and love him. He follows me everywhere I go and never get sick of him. Sound is great and the speakerphone is an added bonus. Battery life is longer than expected. Promise you won't be disappointed.

Worth It!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I got this speaker planning to only use it for camping/grilling, but i've been using it nearly every day around the house too. The sound quality is actually really good for the size. No issues so far, and the speakerphone functionality is perfect.

Added plus: All Siri voice recognition functionality works (iphone 5), including the music commands. This means when i'm outside with the speaker and my phone is charging inside, I still have complete music control via voice command. I'm guessing that it will work with other voice command phones, but so far I've only tried it with the iPhone 5.

Concert in the sand!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This was a great buy! It surrounds you with sound in the wide open space! The battery life is extensive, and lasts and lasts. You can leave it in your backpack and listen to music for an entire hike, or jam out around the camp fire. Love this boom box!

Love it

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have only had the Turtle Shell 2.0 for less than a week and I love it! The battery life on it is amazing, the volume and clarity is great, however it doesn't have that much bass. I would put it against a Beats Pill anytime!

Sweet Speaker

I recently purchased the Outdoor Technology Turtle Shell Boom Box and wanted to provide some feedback. I used it for the 1st time while doing some back country snowshoeing with friends.

I placed the speaker in a mesh pouch on my backpack and we were all able to enjoy clear music the entire day. Everyone was surprised how loud and clear the speaker performed.

Unfortunately, toward the end of the day I had a mishap and ended up sliding about 500 yards down the side of the mountain. I was finally able to stop myself but my Turtle Shell, along with a couple other items, continued into a shallow creek. It was amazing that I could still hear the music playing after all the impact and the speaker being partially submerged in water. I was unable to recover the speaker because of my condition but will be purchasing another.

Thanks, Outdoor Technology, for creating such a durable product that allows me to enjoy music while exploring the outdoors.

Could be louder

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This thing is pretty sweet. Virtually indestructible, long battery life, and Bluetooth functionality are all fantastic features. You can also get a cool clamp to attach this to your bike, OTC0013. Not great bass on this little guy but I suppose you can't win em all.

Not for Hip Hop or bass heavy music

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This thing is just ok. Pretty good for music with no bass. It gets very distorted and the volume seems to drop. Not loud enough for something this expensive either . Still rad design and very easy to set up and good battery life it gets 3 stars, but with no way to turn the bass down there are better options

Dolla Dolla Bill

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Turtle shell is a complete necessity for a hut trip, camping trip, or any time a random dance party might break out. The battery lasts forever and the sound is amazing.

Best bang for your buck

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Super good sound, loud enough for most situations, holds a charge for a long time, and easy bluetooth hook up. Great overall product!! Stoked to start using it outdoors when spring comes around.

Best In Class

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

wow! I was surprised what this little speaker can do. it fits in the palm in your hand and just feels so good. This things is like a chihuahua with the roar of a V8. battery life is excellent, sound is clear, bass is good for the size. the only real concern I've had is when I'm moving the speaker or phone around it will lose connection even if its only 2 feet away. if its perfectly still its perfect. to anyone using this mountain biking I'd recommend putting the 3.5mm cable in to stop lagging. overall its fantastic.

Big Changes from original to 2.0

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Ok, so I have been a fan of ODT for a while, watching them put our rad wireless audio product one after another has been damn cool, I watched their helmet kit like my 401K account waiting for it to be available and have walked around my house with helmet on playing with it like a kid on Christmas morning. I think I may be the one of the first to swoop the 2.0 version of the Turtle when it hit BC last week. I loved the original and appreciated the innovative look, feel and rugged aspect of it, but it lacked a little on volume and the special charge cord was always a hang up for me, it looked so cool and I wanted to LOVE it but sadly just was in like. Well, I can tell you they addressed all the issues plus some and now I am truly IN LOVE. I have tested the Nixon Blaster, a few of the Bravens and the Jambox, and there is just no doubt, with the upgrades made this is the best BT Speaker in it's class and price points (below $200 and smaller than the Big Jam Box). I stuck with Black, the original I has was Electric Blue and is a rad color too.
