Even in warmer weather, high-altitude winds can cool you down in a hurry. The Outdoor Research Men's Whirlwind Hooded Jacket blocks the breeze from chilling your core when you're climbing or hiking. This softshell jacket features highly breathable recycled polyester/spandex stretch woven fabric for knit-like softness and protection against light showers. A zippered Napoleon pocket secures daily accessories and doubles as a stuff sack for convenient storage. Thumb loops protect your hands in cool, not-quite-glove temperatures.

This coat is great for active hobbies

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 6' 1"
    Weight: 215 lbs
    Size Purchased: XL

One of the best Christmas gifts I have received since I use it so much. I use this light jacket for numerous situations. From skinning up a mountain on skis to hiking rivers looking for fish to bite I?m usually wearing this jacket. It is light enough that it feels like a shirt but the material is tougher than cotton.
The wind that we get in the Aleutians cuts through the coat pretty easily. So I would suggest to use this coat as a under layer for when the weather breaks or warmer days when you just need something to take the chill off.

Great Windbreaker

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I bought this bad boy to throw in my climbing pack for when the wind starts to bite. It blocks the wind, whilst still remaining very breathable and it stretches more than enough that it is not movement restricting.

It fits exactly right

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I technically look awesome in it. It is light weight and can be compressed into the chest pocket and turned out to be incredibly small.

Whirlwindy..

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

This hoody is on its way to becoming my favorite piece.
First off its superlight and compressible, zips into its own pocket (albeit a pain sometimes).
The lightweight and loose fit is perfect for keeping the sun and wind off your skin while still being airy enough to not trap body heat. Long sleeves with thumb holes are nice for us guys with longer builds. Full range of motion with out any bunching even wearing packs and harnesses. The hood is nice and easy to forget that its even there. Could be a little slimmer in the lower body but oh well. I'll just have more milkshakes.
I have the Large, I'm 6'2" 165lbs.

Little Tahoma,

Perfect 10

This is by far my favorite piece of OR gear. It is a perfect climbing top. It cuts the chill out of the good sending temps, but doesn't restrict movement at all! It also packs into its own pocket and sits quietly at the bottom of your pack until you need it. I take it everywhere!
