For cold, high-output aerobic pursuits like nordic skiing and winter trail running, the Outdoor Research Vert Glove provides the optimal amount of stretch, protection, and insulation. A soft tricot lining hwlps wick moisture and insulate, while the softshell body gives you total dexterity. The anatomical curve and leather palm help grip your ski poles.
Bottom Line: The perfect amount of glove for high-output winter sports.
For the record, my hands are always cold. If I put my fingertips on my cheek they feel cold even during a work day at the office.
I think these are pretty accurate to their description. You'll notice the recommended use is all high output activity. I wore these on a 30 minute walk in 35 degree temps (28 degree windchill) and my fingers were cold. Working my hands a bit made them comfortable but definitely not toasty. My hands sweat wearing these in the same temps during a run. The windstopper material works very well at blocking the wind.
The craftsmanship is good, but odd. The seams are sewn to the outside in some places, but this does not affect function. The fit is slightly loose and you could probably fit a microweight liner inside comfortably. You have to love the OR pulls on the cuff.
Overall, this is an easy on/off lightweight glove with some durability in the palm. I think this is about as dexterous as you can get without being a compression fit. That said, I'll probably try the BD stormweight next go around.
Forgot to mention, these have no nose wipe. If that is important to you, you might want to look at the extroverts. Every time I wear these, I ask myself why the crap didnt OR place a nose wipe on the thumb. The material is not soft and you will find your self missing the nose wipe that is on most other gloves if thats a feature you use.

This is my go to glove for ski touring, spring skiing, and teaching my daughter to ski. Really comfortable, easy on and off, keeps the hands warm and dry. The grip is fantastic in this glove. Also, I can manage getting in and out of pockets with them on to get M&Ms to bribe the kid to ski longer. Two warm thumbs up. Love these gloves.
these are a lot lighter than i anticipated. The leather palm is weirdly sewn, some of the seams are sewn out. Not much water resistance, but great for touring, biking etc. Cool gloves, but prefer the mountain hardwear torsions. We will see how they perform ice climbing and follow up. Dexterity is great, on par with the outdoor research stormtracker.
great for active people in cold weather. i use them for cross country skiing, ice climbing, and hiking in the winter. they dry really fast, offer excellent dexterity, great grip, they are comfortable, water resistant. I am a big fan and will have several sets of these for next winter.
This is my 3rd pair of Vert gloves. I wear them for farm work and winter horseback riding-gallopping & jumping, foxhunting until it gets bitterly cold. They fit like a ...They fit a hand comfortably, go on and come off in a flash when necessary, block wind, provide grip-on reins, ropes, tool handles, wear fantastically well. Only the stitching finally gives out--after way more than a year of heavy use. I love 'em. Best all around glove I've ever had. Good for Spring skiing, too. Oh, yah, they come out of the washer looking new, every time.
Seriously, the stickiest gloves I think I've ever worn. Grat for hanging from ice tools with, and did very well at xc skiing except they got a bit cold one day when the temp was about 15 and the wind-chill was about 5, but still quite warm if you're being active, the wind was just able to bite a bit at those temps.I wear a medium perfectly in Mountain Hardware & BD gloves, but OR seems a little short for my fingers, so if your fingers are on the long side I might go large with these. Also, like with almost any other leather glove, they'll need some extra waterproofing on the palm.I own these and the Mountain Hardware Torsions and they both have their place. These are stickier and a little softer on the inside, and the torsions wear a little quicker but have a great fit in the fingers.
I got these gloves for AT skiing and for those Spring and Summer days when it is not so cold I need my bulky winter gloves. These gloves articulate well so I can grasp the ski poles quite comfortably and securely. They are nice and warm for how thick they are. The construction and design are top notch. These are not waterproof because they don't have a waterproof layer and I wouldn't want one because they would get wet inside from condensation. They are just a lined softshell material with leather palms which means they breath well and are ideal for athletic activity in mild conditions.
