Outdoor Research went for maximum versatility when they created the Women's Varia 3-in-1 Jacket. The hood, powder skirt, and even the insulated liner can be removed to take on a variety of conditions. A fully seam-taped, waterproof breathable Pertex Shield shell keeps everything inside this three-in-one jacket bone dry in burly weather. Add the EnduraLoft liner to the Varia Jacket to prevent the frigid temperatures from putting an end to your day in the mountains. These two Outdoor Research jackets also work separately to take on a variety of conditions both in the hills and around town.

Bottom Line: Whatever the weather throws at you, the versatile Outdoor Research Varia Jacket takes it in stride.

AWESOME Jacket! Most versatile liner piece I've used

By:

I found this jacket to be superior to just about every other technical winter piece I've ever owned, and I have used a lot of different brands throughout the years. The zip-out liner jacket in the Varia makes things so easy in the morning when leaving to the mountain...I don't have to think about layers or extra clothers, or even having something different to change into after the ski day is over. Every condition or circumstance I might encounter is covered!

The pack I use doesn't seem to interfere with the pockets too badly at all, unlike in the previous reviewer's experience. In fact, this jacket fits me great, too, so it all just depends on your body type.

The material breathes very well and I never overheat. Even in a rain storm I did not get wet at all. I wear the liner piece in the fall and spring for hiking and camping trips. All in all, to be getting two very solid pieces of outerwear for the price of one, you really can't go wrong, especially with a company like Outdoor Research, who guaranties their products with a Lifetime Warranty. You just can't beat it!

Disappointed

By:

I am disappointed in this jacket. It would have everything going for it except the 2 front pockets are right where my pack waist belt is. I just don't think that will work as I like to use those pockets too much. The shell is large in the chest - never thought I would say that was a problem as I'm busty. Not flattering at all. Needs to be more form-fitting. With the pack on, I looked like I had a shelf of a chest with all the extra fabric. Seemed strange. Perhaps it just runs large. I'm a solid medium and this really felt too big. As for the construction, that was done very well for taping, but wish the front used the flapless sippers like in the pits. Not recommended for backcountry/pack wearing. The hood fit my helmet, but it was tight. Sorry BC, but I'm returning this purchase!
