Here's what others have to say...

I really like this bib

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I went on a long weekend trip split boarding and it worked great. i first thought it was tight in the crotch. i ordered a Medium, i am 6 foot 185. It fits me like it was tailored to me. high quality gear, it fits more like a typical skier look and not a snowboarder but i care more about performance than anything. No more snow in my butt crack! This was my first Outdoor Research purchase but wont be my last.

Returned, too Long

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large

I am 6'2" tall, inseam 33, waist 32. I normally wear a large and the research I did (looking at sizing charts) indicated a large should work. Therefore, I ordered a large. Unfortunately the large was much to long in the inseam - by about 3 inches.

That being said, they were comfortable in every other way. With stretch fabric and fair amount of articulation through the knees, it had a nice motion comfort fit. The insulation appeared to be very warm and suited well for sub 30oF days. Construction seemed on par with OR product. I would speculate that the face fabric might not be as rugged as if it were constructed from Gore pro shell or equivalent, but again just speculation.

In the end I returned them due to the length and never put them through their paces.

Well-made and warm

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

These bibs are very well made- I'm talking Patagonia and Arcteryx level of quality. The material is a pretty thick, fleece-lined soft-shell material. Because of this they are super warm and durable. I haven't had them in warmer conditions, and I wonder if the zips would provide enough ventilation to keep me cool.

The small fit me fine- I'm 5'8" 165, but seems like a few other people have had sizing issues. The legs are a tad long, but that doesn't bother me at all since my ski boot holds up any excess fabric off the ground.

OR Needs To Do More "R" On These Bibs

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

OK, these are clearly made from some of the best material of any available bib. These pants have a thin but fuzzy liner and would be really great...BUT...they are cut for a KEN DOLL! If you are all legs and have a little to no butt, you might find they fit well. They are wicked tight in the crotch and really long in the leg. Wouldn't want to have to crawl out from a tree well in these.

I am 6'1" and 205, basically athletic with a little gut (need more days on the mountain). I tried both the L and XL. The L were uncomfortably tight in crotch and upper thigh, but perfect length-wise. The XL were better in the crotch (but still a tad too tight) but the legs were sufficient for someone who is 6'4" or taller.

Too bad for OR because with a little more tailoring for the typical male build and they could hands down be the best bibs on the market. I will have to go with a Marmot bib instead.

Long

  • Fit: Runs large

I was going to buy these. I tried them on at the OR store in Seattle. I am 5' 10" 170lbs and I always wear medium. The pants fit except for the leg length. They are super long! IMO, you prob need to be at least 6ft for these pants to fit. Other then that, great OR quality as usual.

Zippable bib... Need I say more?

Favorite feature of the pants, is no question the zippable bib. It adds so much versatility to them! They're durable, breathable complimented with a good ventilation system (zips in the crotch and by the hips, so air flows through.) and super waterproof.
Well placed pockets, and not too many either. And the right pocket has an avalanche transciever mesh pocket inside with a clip- nice touch!
If you're on the fence with sizing- choose the smaller of the two.
I work on my skis, so I'm wearing these pants everyday, in every condition. I've never been happier with a pair!

Very good pants, but extremely tall!

I'm 6'4"and 190 lbs, and have never found pants to be too long in the legs, even if they're marked Tall. The XL's are borderline too tall for me. Don't get them unless you're at least 6'4" or 6'5".

Other than that, no complains so far. They're great pants.

pants perfection

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

First the sip off bib is an amazing idea. I love bibs and have skied exclusivly with bibs for years, dropping the knee in the deep will end up with snow inside your pants. Being able to remove the bib fore more mild days is a fabulous thing. Second the pants breathability is increadible, without sacrificing a waterprof performance when needed. THe vents are good enough and they allow access to the knees for putting on knee pads in the field. Having used them in temperatures ranging from minus 10 to 50 degrees and in snow and sun, powder and corn I feel confident that these ski pants are the best i have ever used

Sidecountry Perfection

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These pants/bibs are super durable, comfortable and dry thanks to the sandwiched GoreTex membrane. The bib, being taller in the back, protects not just from deep snow but also from the dreaded jacket creep (when your pack pulls your jacket up on the uphill. The inner thigh vents are long and combined with the side vents provide good ventilation before it's time to rip the skins and make some turns.

I like like the combination of sidecountry fit/style with bomber functionality.

go to 1:55 to see the pants in action!

Hey, any chance you could tell me how you stabilized the backpack cam around 1:00? Haven't been able to keep the thing smooth.

Responded on

I just strapped my ski pole onto my backpack in 3 or four places with the pole mount attachment, seemed to work ok, just make sure all your straps are tight!

Favorite backcountry/sidecountry pants

I have charged in these for a full season of ski touring now. I know they are a little bigger and heavier than 'normal' ski touring pants but I like the upgrade for a few reasons. Goretex is the best when you live in a snowy place like British Columbia. It snows all the time where I live and work, and these durable and weather proof pants deliver. Vents on the in and outside of the legs really provide optimal uphill performance. And they look good too. The cut is a bit big, but it is a great looking relaxed fit. Get a pair, they deliver!
