Description

Compression sacks for the weight-obsessed.

Compression sacks used to weigh twice as much as other stuff sacks. That time has passed thanks to the Outdoor Research UltraLight Compression Sack. Even the largest size (which is bigger than an average daypack) weighs under six ounces. Outdoor Research uses four compression straps to help cram your sleeping bag into a spot half of its normal size.

Get Er done

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Initially I was worried about durability.
Tried tested and true, no rips, tears, or malfunctions with over two years of use.
Superlight and I would recommend for sleeping bags and clothes, Just shove it all in there and cinch it down!

What size for a sleeping bag and some clothes?

Responded on

It depends upon your bag to some extent, down compresses better than synthetic, but a pretty typical sleeping bag compressed size is @ 8X16" and add some for the amount of clothes you want to throw in. Good Luck!

I run a 20L compression/drybag for backpacking and it holds my 40 degree ultralight sleeping bag, pad, thermals, and insulators, with space to spare, so depending on how much compression you want and how much you load into there I'd say the 15L would be your best option. Hope that helps.

Look at the size of the origale of the stuff sack of the sleeping bag (25.4 x 53.3 cm ) and fide the right size you need..it look like for me you need the "35"

I have the Big Agnes King Solomon two person bag which is also 600 fill down, and I can EASILY fit it into this 25L sack with room to spare.

I have the Marmot Lithium Membrain regular bag. Should I go 12 L or 15 L sack?

Responded on

Hey phi3431983,

The Marmot Lithium MemBrain Sleeping Bag regular size has a stuff size of 7.5" x 16", so the best size would be the 12L for the Outdoor Research UltraLight Compression Sack. I hope this answer helps.

What size for mountain hardwear wraith bag and what size to stuff mountain hardwear absolute zero parka and compressor pants?

Responded on

I would go with a medium or the 12L for it to be safe and have room for a bit more. You can probably stuff it into the small (8L) and be alright.

More room for Clif Bars and machetes

I got the 15L Outdoor Research UltraLight Compression Sack to use for my tent, which is a Marmot Limelight 3 Person Tent. I needed more space in my pack for other essentials and the tent was taking up to much room. and after fitting the entire tent (minus the tent poles)in the compression sack, it packs up quite nicely. Now i'll have more room for Clif Bars and machetes!!!

What size compression sack would I need to fit the Marmot Limelight 3 Person tent?

Responded on

measure the size of it when you have it all wrapped up, and compare the sizes. packed size says 22x8 so if that is right then a 15L should be a good fit.

What size would be recommended for a NorthFace Aleutian sleeping bag (24 cm x 46 cm)?

Responded on

12L or 15L... If I were you, I'd go 15L as I hate when the bag I'm stuffing in is just a hair too small for the sleeping bag. Plus, as the difference is less than an ounce and $3, it isn't a huge weight/dollar investment for something slightly larger.

The Aleutian is 8" x 17" stuffed. I would go with the 15L.

Ultralight Compression Sack - Outdoor Research

Nathan talks about the Ultralight Compression Sack from Outdoor Research. This lightweight compression sack reduces sleeping bags and other stuffables to a pack-friendly size. The silnyl fabric resists moisture and slides into your pack with ease. A pocket in the end cap keeps track of small items or can be used for self storage.

When the size is specified (8, 12, 25, or 35) does that indicate the compressed size or the size before compression? Thanks.

Responded on

Yes, it's the largest size prior to compression.

So small

I bought this for my marmot lithium (12L) and my dogs EMS boreal 20 Jr (12L). They work really well, are highly water resistant and really light. The compression sack folds up into it's own small stuff sack when not in use which is a cool little trick. I can't find anything not to like yet, have had great success!
