Nice Softshell

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large

I've purchased softshells from OR and was looking for an alternative to my one without a hood. It is nice but not great, the seams are not tapped and the material seems a little thin. At this I will be wearing it a lot when the weather is in the mid 50s. I am 5'4" and it fits as it should.

Great for gals with short arms!

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I loved almost everything about this jacket - the stitching and fabric seemed well-made and durable, the color (zin) was as advertised - but as a 5'9, 135 lb, not terribly curvy woman, the small fit me perfectly in the torso but was at least 3 inches too short in the arms. I tried for a moment to convince myself I could make it work but it was seriously just way too short. Probably best for women with curvier builds and/or slightly shorter limbs.

Great softshell, great price

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I really like the softshell for its soft hand and ease of movement. I read the other review, and although I agree that its short, for me that is perfect, because it layers well under my shell. So the Transfer does double duty for me and I love it!

great quality, but short and boxy

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

A very nice jacket, warm, well-made, which is to be expected of OR brand. Their jackets tend to run half or full size too big, so if you are between sizes, go with smaller one. The only downside is that the cut is quite boxy, so there's a lot of fabric around my waist, while being just right around my hips (and my waist is not tiny by any means). Also, I'm 5'7" and it hits me only about 1" below my hip bones. Since I got it on sale, it's worth keeping. But if I were to buy a quality softshell for full price, I'd look for a more feminine cut.

Unanswered Question

I've got two questions : looking at the reviews, apparently the sleeves can be a bit short, so I would like to know which size should I take if my arms are 24inches (61cm) ?

The second question is about how warm is the jacket ? I would like to buy this jacket to go to New Zealand next month (March), and the weather at this period is in average 18 degrees celsius. So I don't think I really need a very warm mountain coat, but I need something who can keep me warm when it's windy. Do you think this jacket could be ok, or would you recommend I get something else ?
