Lead the charge on your next tour into a wild, white world when you put on the heavily breathable and water-resistant Outdoor Trailbreaker Softshell Pant. A lower half made of a waterproof breathable softshell fabric called Ventia keeps the fresh snow from soaking your ankles as you set a perfect set of Z’s for your companions to follow, and to keep you moving comfortably, the upper half is made from a super breathable Cordura and Lycra blend softshell that lets the sweaty vapors from your burning thighs escape without building up inside like a gross greenhouse.

  • Two-way outer thigh zip vents dump heat and let in cool air while you set ascent records in two feet of fluff
  • Seal the snow out from sneaking in from underneath with the Trailbreaker’s zip-out mesh gaiters
  • Reinforced ankle guards reduce rips and tears from ski edges or crampons
  • Ankle zips easily cover ski and mountaineering boots

Bottom Line: Get dibs on first tracks when you break trail while wearing the Trailbreaker softshell.

Light and fast

This pant is the ultimate ski touring pant for light and fast and not too cold adventures. If you don't stop moving for more than 10 minutes of your day, you will love these pants. Layer with long underwear for the cold days and vent super easily. Great pockets, easy cuffs to get over boots.

good touring pants, but...

not for days when it is just nuking! I now live in UT and have worn them in all conditions with great success, long length side zips are great for temperature control on the skinner, but if I were in the Pacific NW I would likely go with something a bit more waterproof. we can kind of get away with murder here in UT.

I am 6'1" and a medium is perfect. (seems like patagonia and OR share sizing for the most part)

Great Features

I was in the market for a new pant for full bc touring days. Superb amount of pockets/vents/features. Sizing & cut is best for the core alpine touring demographic which tends to be more of more slender build than myself. If you don't want a rando-racing fit i'd recommend sizing up.

Hi: I'm considering the OR Trailbreaker vs Rab Fusion pants. From your reviews I understand that the OR XL is a tighter fit through the legs than the Rabs. What about waist? The Rab XL waist is listed as 36", while the OR is 38". Are the two pants pretty similar in waist size/adjustability? And what about inseam? Which is the longer pant? Finally, about the material. The Trailbreaker appears to be a more warmer insulated pant--is that correct? Thanks for any help. I'm working in Siberia now, and need to order pants sight unseen.
