Really 4.5 stars

these are great-my only complaint is on the fingers. OR cut out sections of leather and placed soft shell material in the spaces. Great for dexterity, my only complaint, is for ice climbing that means more sewing holes for water to get in. Simplicity is key for me. Great dexterity.

Well designed glove

By:

these are comfortable, completely windproof, exceptionally water resistant, quick drying, and offer excellent dexterity. I use them for hiking, ice climbing, and around town. They are great for climbing ice because they offer such great water resistance and dry in your pockets on belay. the dexterity they allow is key. the gauntlet is nice and completely seals out harsh winds. the only problem is that the palm is a really soft leather, so i'm not sure how long they will last given lots of rope travel. I always use the shell from my belay gloves (black diamond prodigy glove) over top of these to belay/handle ropes.

Best Fit

By:
November 28, 2010

These are some of the best fitting gloves I have ever owned. I bought a large & normaly wear a large. Good for cool weather or for uphill in colder temps. Seem to breathe well.

Review Title

My boyfriend bought these gloves a couple of months ago and I've been eying them ever since. Finally found them here in size small in black. I haven't field tested them yet. The plan is use them as sort of an all-purpose utility glove for things like climbing or not-too-cold-weather trekking. I'm typically a ladies' medium and the men's small fit me nicely -- a snug solid fit that doesn't bind anywhere. The zipper is a bit extraneous for me -- I just don't need to use mine. But my boyfriend likes the zipper, so I guess it's a good feature for some and irrelevant for others. The red is a gorgeous shade of red, but I'm still glad I waited to get these in black.

Ehhh... So, So...

I have been a long time OR fan. I have had their Alti Mittens for years, and loved them as bomber mittens. When wanting a light weight, dexterous pair of gloves I thought OR was the company to go with. WRONG. These gloves soak up water like a sponge. I have worn them now about four times snowboarding. Some dry condition, some wet, and some in between. Every time I have used them the palms get wet, soak up water and stay that way for the rest of the day. I will say if you don't touch anything and let your hands "rest" in the glove you don't feel the wetness and your hand does stay rather warm. However grab something and your hand feels soaked! If your looking for a lightweight waterproof glove keep looking. Sorry OR, FAIL.

Perfect for the city life

By:
February 28, 2010

These were perfect for what I bought them for: something to take the edge off when ice scraping, for a walk around the block, and dexterity while driving.

I did not have particular hopes that they would be an intense winder glove, and they are not, so I had big letdown about them not holding up in the intense cold, which they don't.

Buy these for the 10s - 30s temps and you should find yourself a worthy glove for actions requiring dexterity.

Great fit, dexterity - thin

By:
January 19, 2010

This glove is what I was looking for - thin and light with great dexterity. I can tie my shoes with the gloves on. Great working carabiners. They are thin though, 20 degrees standing still is cold in these. The zip gauntlet is awesome. It makes the glove snug and jacket sleeves go right over them. Waterproofness is medium, it took a day of wet climbing to soak through the palms enough to make the gloves cold. Oh, and I can fit BD punisher shells over them for extra warmth or knuckle protection. I would say the fingers run slightly shorter than average, which is good because I think most gloves' fingers are too long.

High quality but not warm

By:
December 17, 2009

Typically I wear a men's large but these were at least a half size too small. The palm leather lining is very flexible and the glove materials and workmanship are high quality. I walked my dogs with them in mid-30s weather and my hands were cold. These gloves just don't keep my hands warm in cold weather. Currently, my mother-in-law is enjoying them.

great gloves

By:
October 24, 2009

I'm really into these govles. I've had a couple of pairs now and use them mostly for ice climbing and spring skiing. They are great gloves for leading ice, but on cold days bring a warmer pair for belays. These gloves offer excellent dexterity and are quite durable. Best to put some leather conditioner on the palms as it will help with keeping your hands dry and durability. If you need dexterity you can't go wrong with these gloves

looks like a great glove but men's sizing won't work for women

By:
September 30, 2009

Looks like a great glove for skinning and climbing. I bought them for my girlfriend who says she's got small hands, I bought a unisex/men's small, too large though, she tried on some other OR women's med. gloves and they fit great so we unfortunately had to return them, thankfully backcountry is great about working with you on any issues with the items they sell.
