With cotton canvas material, I worry about getting hot (Gulf Coast in summer - HOT). How effective are the mesh sides for ventilation?

The material is a bit thick...you gotta pay more for a more 'performance oriented' hat i think

Worth 26 dollars

Living in West Texas, the more sun protection the better, so this hat was worth 26 dollars...but I wanted an even bigger brim, an even lighter weight, to combat the evil death rays...

Perfect in every way. I use it to hike in the desert and It's lightweight and cool, plus it keeps the sun away. The service from Backcountry was fantastic--I will definitely recommend you to friends and family.

Yes, it's soft and floppy. It's fine for putting in a suitcase, but isn't something you'd put into a tiny stuff sack.

Sombrero Should Have Given Me A Clue

By:

You could not tell from the photo and there was no description really about this hat, but it had a wide brim . . . larger than what I was expecting and too large for what I wanted.

Is it water repellant, light weight? looking for something to shield my face from the sun & neck from the sun & keep my head dry & cool in caribbean. Also, how floppy is it?

Not water repellant, mid-weight, as for floppiness...it will fold for packing but the brim will not fall into your eyes.

No this is 100% cotton canvas so it is not waterproof (I'd reccomend Nikwax cotton proof to help with this problem) and it weights 4.3 oz / 122 Grams. And as for floppiness, I have no clue.

hope that helped
