It is a great hat for its purpose. I was given mine as an Xmas present a decade and a half ago. I think about bringing it when we go sea kayaking but I always leave it at home because I just can't stand the thought of wearing it. It is like the single most hat that the biggest goobs out there flock to. It is like a badge for REI members and people in the Mountaineers club. It is like one of the ten necessary essentials to being a complete and utter outdoor chode before you drive home in your Prius. Those of you who have seen the people I am talking about understand what I am saying. The dweeb male or female with short shorts and gaiters on, with a backpack filled with the ten essentials along with their trekking poles as they do the simplest of hikes. I laugh when a car load pulls up and they are like little clones wearing the same goob gear.
I bet the guys at OR are happy that they sell a ton of them. I just don't care to look like one of the strange people who wear them.

You are welcome... The truth isn't always nice. I was guessing someone would get their feathers ruffled. I was just wondering who would be the first. I said it was a great hat. For someone who doesn't know any better and doesn't want to look like one of the 'clones '. I would take it into consideration before buying one.

I don't even own this hat, nor am I going to disagree with what you said with your baggy clothes comment. I enjoy reading the reviews on this site because they are usually even marginally informative. What you posted was not a review, but rather a simple bashing of a product you don't like & your own stereotype for it. I appreciate people being brutally honest about things, but only if relevant to a review, which yours was not. I highly doubt people are going to care whatsoever if it hurts your ego if you wear this hat, which is about all I got out of your so-called "review."
Best out there

From all the various rain hats I have had, this is the best by far. The standard to which all others are measured.
Superior rain proof hat!!!!!!!

1000% waterproof, how's that for a review!
Lightweight, long extension for neck coverage. Front bill also protects against rain for those of us who wear glasses. Top part of the hat is goretex-lined for wind proof, as well as rain-proof protection! I wear mine in the winter as well -- top gortex section keeps the wind out.
There you have it, now get off the couch and get one of these great hats!!! Well worth the price. When, if, mine wears out I'll get another!!! You'll thank me later for this recommendation. I wear a 7 1/4, and I got the Large. What's nice is the internal velcroe adjuster, so you can both tighten or loosen the hat as necessary. Perfect fit no matter what. And the inside top is soooo soft as well.

This is the perfect hat for spending a significant amount of time in the rain. I love that it is waterproof and will keep your head dry. I have used this hat extensively in Alaska and fishing the northern Minnesota and it has never let me down. It is very packable and will roll-up and fit in a pocket while not is use. It is also lightweight so you feel like your not even wearing it. It might be a little warm for the middle of the summer but it does great the rest of the year.

Ok, so I test products from W.L. Gore. And I used to live in Seattle. So I think that makes me qualified to review this. While I would not place this in the stylish category, it for sure takes care of business. It keeps you dry, keeps the sun out of your face, and is easy to clean. Keep this in your pack if there is a chance of rain, and it will make you one happy hiker. Not much else to explain, but another solid product from OR.

I am a member of a GORE-TEX product testing team and received this hat a sample while working at a gear store about 5 years ago.
That said, these hats are great. They last forever (mine doesn't show any wear and tear and my father has had one for at least 10 years) and are very functional.
I will readily admit that they aren't the most stylish thing out there, but whether you're venturing out in the rain, wind or sun, this hat does a great job of protecting you from the elements. The brim keeps rain off the face and back of you neck and shades you from the sun. The velcro patches make it easy to hold the sides up and the chin cord ensures that your hat won't run away from you.
I use mine primarily in the rain and on river trips - they are warm enough that I don't love using it in the middle of the summer when it's hot and sunny out (although I have used it for that purpose on occasion).
The Sombrero's light and packs down enough that it will easily disappear in a back pack.
All in all, a great hat if you pick function over form.

Much better than a baseball hat at keeping the sun at bay. I used mine mostly during the summer down in the Gulf of Mexico doing work offshore, where there's only the sun and very little shade. It performed fine, was comfortable, and kept the sun at bay. The few times I was outside in a squall it did its job and kept the rain off, so no complaints there. It seems to be holding up fine too, despite being crushed in various bags etc during movements, so again, no complaints. Their sizing seems accurate as the large fits me well and thats what my hat size is. Overall a very nice hat!

Bought this hat for my brother in law in the UK. He described it as the "best gift ever". Their summer this year set a bar which Seattle would be challenged to match ;-)

Well this thing seems pretty solid. Very soft lining so my balding head feels great in it. There is an adjustable hook and loop strap inside to help get that perfect fit. Now I just need to get some rain. Best go to Seattle.

Has a nice large brim for shade and rain. The inside of the hat has a liner that gets a little warm when your hiking hard and working up a sweat.
SIMPLY THE BEST WATERPROOF HAT YOU'LL EVER BUY!!!

Simple,
1. The hat is 100% waterproof
2. The brim extends in the back to keep the water from going down your shirt or jacket..
3. The hat's inner brim is super soft, and is adjustable.
4. The hat folds and tucks away in any pack
5. Best of all, if you wear glasses you will love the extra wide brim for keeping your glasses perfectly dry, even in a tough downpour.
There, I've said enough, now get off your duff, cough up the green and get yourself this Sombrero, you will thank me later.
Cheers!
