Wear these 400-weight fleece mitts on their own shoveling the driveway in cold, dry weather, and layer them under shell mittens for skiing or climbing in nasty conditions. The hard face, heavyweight exterior fleece provides a bit of wind resistance, while the interior feels plush against your skin. Outdoor Research gave the PL 400 Mittens a silicone palm for grip and durability and an elasticized wrist to seal out the wind.

I googled a search for the best extreme cold weather gloves/mittens and these were recommended. I wore mine to Chicago (temps in the low 30s) and Las Vegas (temps in the low 50s). My hands still felt the cold! Also, while pushing my mother in a wheelchair, I kept getting shocked as I encountered metal (opening doors, rolling over pavement/carpet). I am disappointed. But, since these were the only gloves/mittens I had to wear, I guess I'm stuck with them since they are now used :-(

Nice gloves! Tight at wrists to keep the cold out, pleasant at touch. I tried them first at 15 C and it was not a good idea. Probably a -8 C is a max for what the gloves can deliver. They are not a windbreakers.
