When your coffee starts freezing in your thermos, you know it’s time to replace your light fleece with the Outdoor Research Women’s Neoplume Insulated Jacket. This PrimaLoft Eco jacket works as a replacement mid-layer under your shell or alone as added warmth during lunch breaks or belays. The streamlined design compresses easily in your pack thank to the internal zip stuff pocket.

Bottom Line: For bitter cold days in the backcountry, bust out the Neoplume.

I LOVE this jacket. My second day having it the weather was 20F with 30-50mph winds and this jacket was absolutely perfect. I wasn't even affected by the temperatures or the wind. AMAZING.
True to size, I am 5'5" 120lbs and the small fits very well (my broad shoulders are a little cramped but its always been that way).

Not a winter jacket

I'm a little disappointed because I had been looking for the vegan equivalent of a down jacket, and this is not nearly as warm. PrimaLoft ECO insulation is supposed to be as warm as down at equal densities, but what you can't tell from the photos is that there is almost no insulation in this jacket. Below 40 degrees I need to wear fleece underneath, and below 20 degrees I need to wear two fleeces underneath.

The waterproofing and wind resistance are excellent, but the outer slipperiness makes it almost impossible to carry a bag on one shoulder. It will slip off every time.

The cut, fit, and design are very flattering. The shoulders, arms, and chest fit very well, but the hips are too loose, which allows cold air to sneak in from below. I measure 29-23-32 and I ordered an XS.

Try to check out the jackets overall weight, if it wiehgs less than a pound it will always be a lighter jacket. Even my down jacket that weighs 7oz won't cut it by itself if the temps are below 30, but that being said it will out perform my synthetic jacket that weighs 15oz. In my opinion down is alway going to be a better insulation than synthetic, so it isn't really apple to apples when trying to compare syntheitc to down.

Let me know if you find a great, really warm vegan jacket.

great

This is a great jacket, very versatile. I have been comfortable skiing in 3 degree weather, hiking in 20 weather and walking to class in 50 degree weather. The jacket doesn't have lots of frills- just what you need but done WELL! The hood and pockets are nice. I'm 5'2 and 105 lbs and the small fits me. Leaves room for a big sweater, but isn't too large to wear with a t-shirt.
