Mixalot Glove

The thinnest gloves in Outdoor Research’s line of alpine climbing gloves, the Mixalot Glove is made for ice and mixed climbing in warmer temperatures. The glove’s Gore Windstopper softshell material and goat leather palm keep the cold wind and light water from freezing your digits, while the same thin material allows for an increased range of movement when you have to stop and place a cam or stopper while still keeping your hands warm enough to continue upward through mixed ice and rock. Specifically engineered three-finger articulation and a pre-curved construction means these gloves are made for handling ice tools on rock and ice so you can be confident your gloves are working with your hands when cranking out a stein pull or executing some other type of alpine trickery.

Nice concept if you can fit

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:
Xl

I am an XL in most gloves. This glove runs especially small. Even compared to other OR gloves. Even after getting the glove on it felt colder compared to other liner style gloves I have. I went with the Backstop Sensor glove. I like the concept of this glove but I found the wrist way too small and the area between the index and thumb also too small. The space between the fingers fit well so I am afraid if I bought XXL (if they even have them) the fingers would be too long. Overall the mixed leather is nice and I’m sure it would be a durable glove, however the fit isn’t great.

Returned them

Bought a few pairs for camp chores and backcountry ski chores such as putting skins on and off and scraping ice, tensioning guy lines, tying boots, etc. They give incredible dexterity. The stitching inside is a bit annoying but I could have loved them if they were water existent. They will not stay dry for my uses. I intended to keep heavy gloves on and just use these for the small chores that require dexterity and then switch them out. I believe won't stay dry for even the shortest time. The materials are outstanding and luxurious. Wish they would have kept the water out! As far as size, I am a girl, 5'3" 118 lbs and the small was a good fit.

Versatile gloves

I love them. Amazing gloves for biking on cold weather. And of course, amazing for baselayer ice climbing! They fit perfectly on my hand...well design.

Favorite Gloves!

I was so excited when these were re-released. Great for xc skiing, and mountain biking. They are thin enough to allow dexterity for rope work. Lightweight.

Great performance, poor durability.

I have owned 3 pairs of these gloves. I really think these gloves perform great for ice, mixed, and alpine climbing. However, they are not very durable. The stitching on the fingers tends to fail relatively quickly. If you buy these gloves, you will likely want a needle, thread, and seam grip to extend the life of the seams. I would really like to see OR improve the durability of the gloves by making the leather slightly thicker, improving the stitching, and extending the thumb-index reinforcement higher on the index finger. The thicker leather used on the pinky could be used on the palm and other fingers to improve durability without too much loss of sensitivity or grip. The thin leather thumb-index reinforcement patch could be extended above the first and second knuckles on the index finger to reinforce the high wear areas on the index finger.

Like a second skin

Excellent gloves for dexterity and grip. I have no idea yet whether they will stand up to extensive rope use, but they are ideal for that application.

Warm for the small bulk

And good fitting. Great for high intensity ice climbing and winter scrambling

Awesome glove, lasted maybe 15 pitches.

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

These fit me perfectly and have wonderful dexterity. Great for mixed and warmer ice climbing. Yeah, I knew they were thin and that they probably wouldn't last super duper long interacting with rock and ropes, but even trying to be nice to them I got maybe 15 pitches out of them before both gloves had a hole in the middle finger. Sad face.

great gloves, could be better

Have used this for trail running and ski touring. This is a great lightweight glove that does all it promises. My only knock is there is a hard bit on the inside that rubs the skin on both middle fingers. The the cauterized ends of the loops used for clipping gloves to a harness have a hard bit that wears and hurts after an hour or so of wear. Had the same issue with the splitter work gloves, trimmed them and now it is all good. Going to try doing the same to these. Would recommend, but I expected a better finish on these gloves.

Drytooling goodness

I use these in the gym when drytooling, and they have definitely made the tools more comfortable to grip and pull without being too warm or too bulky.
