With a waterproof shell and a removable fleece liner, the Outdoor Research Meteor Mitten is a versatile, three-in-one system that’s ideal for year-round mountain use. A large gauntlet with a drawcord and webbing strap keep powder and debris from getting into the mitts, and the tactile synthetic palm gives you solid grip on ski poles or an ice axe. The removable fleece liner mitt features a fold-back flap that exposes your fingers when dexterity is required on the mountain or around camp.
Bottom Line: A four-season mitten system for any conditions.
Okay. I paid less than a hundo for these gloves, and have gotta remember that. I've been wearing these gloves for a couple months now, and I'm definitely impressed with them. The liners are very warm, and the shell is pretty windproof & snow/waterproof. Palms are very grippy, and I like the foldover idea of the liner, so you can keep your gloves on while doing work that involves your fingertips. A couple of points. -The liner feels very strange at first, like it curls your fingers over. It takes some getting used to, but I don't mind the way these gloves fit now. I can see why people complained, at first. -The gauntlet isn't very big. If your putting it over a thick insulator & shell, its going to take some doing. -No where to wipe your nose. I haven't found a pair of winter gloves with that ever, just XC ski & bike ones. It'd be nice if backcountry glove makers put a furry patch on the thumb to get the ice buildup off your 'stash.
Considering it is all too easy to spend over a bill or even two on gloves, I'm pretty happy with this purchase.
This is a great mitten for skiing. It is warm and easily dries after a day of skiing after removing the fleece liner. It does run a little small. I normally wear a small, but the medium fitted me better. It is also a great price for the quality. Get them, you won't regret it.
It isn't waterproof, but definitely water resistant. And it breathes, to an extent. I've had condensation in the gloves after a couple hours of snowshoeing, and skiing. Easy fix, take off the outers and wear the liners till they dry off a bit.

Wore them on a summit of Mt Washington in January in a -48 F windchill with only a pair of thin glove liners underneath. I'm a person who normally gets cold hands anyway so these things get an A+ in my book. As some people have mentioned, they do get a little tight in the thumb "crotch" making it sometimes difficult to get the glove liner back in the shell especially if you're wearing an additional liner underneath but that's secondary in my opinion and not a big deal.
I use them for biking, x-c skiing, snowshoeing in Wisconsin. We got cold (tho to be fair, I've not been out in negative conditions, solely because we haven't had them yet). When it does get Arctic, my guess is these babies are going to do the job. Note: Sizes seem REALLY small. I used XL, would normally use L. had to return an L pair, which really raised the price.
Used these mittens for backcountry skiing, overnight in the Sierra in winter and when I need a serious waterproof mitten. Recently I worked on splitting and piling wet wood while it was snowing and in the teen temps (wind, too) all in these mitts.. My hands were SO warm and completely dry. After a wash, they look like new again. I also use them with different liners, depending on where I am at, although the liner it comes with is decent. I wear a small size and they fit well - I normally wear s/m gloves in womens. The drawstring and belted features helps keep these mitts in place and the inners extra dry; a feature I appreciate as I have very small wrists.
