The hardy, durable Outdoor Research Women's Mentor Jacket sheds even the heaviest rain and snow, thanks to its Gore-Tex Pro Shell fabric and fully taped seams. Water-resistant zippers, a drawcord hem, and a helmet-compatible hood solidify your mountain fortress, and plenty of pockets keep small items easily accessible. As the uphill skin track gets steeper, adjust the hem-to-bicep underarm vent zippers for comfy, cooling airflow. Articulated elbows give you full range of motion for your next pole-plant or axe swing.

Bottom Line: A jacket you can take into the worst weather conditions out there.

Best jacket ever

I own the Lime/Artichoke jacket in small and it's incredible. I just got it about a month ago and have used it for ice climbing, snowboarding, a snowshoe race, and rainy days in the city. It's my first gore-tex pro shell and I love everything about it-- keeps me dry & temperature regulated, has room for a helmet inside the hood, and the fit is perfect. I can't wait to use it for my summer hikes, sailing, and climbing as well. Layering makes it super versatile.

I recommend this jacket for anyone who spends a significant amount of time in the outdoors. It's a serious jacket & will be vital for the windy/wet days you'll be sure to encounter. Probably a bit too much for someone who just needs a rain jacket or winter jacket (it's not insulated) but definitely an essential wardrobe piece for any outdoor enthusiast.

I'm 5'9" and 125 pounds, would the Medium or Large be best? I'll need to be able to put a few layers underneath the jacket.

My Mentor....

By:
February 9, 2011

I love my Mentor. It is absolutely rugged, waterproof and windproof. One of my favorite times to wear the Mentor is when I ice climb on warmer days. On warmer days (warm for ice climbing frozen waterfalls) there is plenty of water dripping off the ice and the Mentor just sheds the water. I wear a few layers under it and I stay warm. I wear a medium and there is plenty of room for the layers without limiting my range of motion/making me feel bulky. The hood fits great over my climbing helmet. It still looks brand new after 20+ days in the field.

I am 5'11" with long arms... most women's jackets

I am 5'11" with long arms... most women's jackets do not fit my long arms and most men's jackets are too tight around my hips.... North Face, Mountain Hardware, Columbia and Marmot women's jackets are all to short in the sleeves. I also have an Arc'teryx soft shell that fits my arms perfectly but am looking to spend a little less on a hard shell...any idea how this jacket fits comparably?

Outstanding shell

By:
March 6, 2011

This shell have worn cross country skiing, roller blading, outside in rain and snow and am sure will be wearing for some cold spring sailing. Has kept me bone dry without getting hot or sweaty. The hood leaves lots of room for hats and love being able to layer with lite merino 't' and fleece jacket open to keep everything breathing with jacket zipped and adjusting pit zips. Was looking for something truly able to block out a cold breeze and this jacket does that. The biggest surpise was the side zips. As an athletic petite (5 3") most technical jackets do not fit because the jacket is long enough to hit the hips (too tight) which means having to buy larger size that neither looks or fits well. With this jacket, can unzip the sides just a little to accomodate hips and/or longer layers and keep the great fit. Loved the first one so much bought a second at a smaller size so have one for all season exercise with few layers and one that also looks great for winter hiking and skiing layers. (Just wish I was fast enough to get the medium in the artichoke color at sale price when it comes up!!)

Lin, this is a great technical jacket that will keep you totally dry. For the warm part, you will need to layer this over a warm baselayer or fleece on cold days.

Love the OR cut on this piece. Easy for my shoulders, no binding, killer zipper Torso Flo feature to dump heat. I've used it for almost 2 years now and still keep going back to it. Nice shape and love the green color!
