Furio Jacket

Weather can be a daunting adversary on the mountain. So when the elements go nuclear, make sure you're armed to the teeth with Outdoor Research's Furio Jacket. In the wake of Mt. Rainier's relentless and ever shifting storms, this coat protects and deflects the brunt of Mother Nature's harsh whacks and whumphs without prohibiting you from doing a victory-boogie at the summit.

Falling in the footsteps of the earlier Furio prototype, this year's edition is designed to be softer, quieter, and more streamlined than seasons prior. Designed as a hybrid mapped pattern, this piece is outfitted with Gore-Tex Paclite product technology throughout the body and is reinforced with Gore-Tex C-Knit textile on areas of high wear and tear. When you need to batten down the hatches, the Halo Hood fits snugly over a helmet while the TorsoFlo bicep-to-hem side zip ventilation presents easy-to-access aeration when you inner layers start to resemble something of a Roman steambath.

Jacket She'll

I like everything about the jacket. It does fit a little too tight but if I use the side zippers, it works out okay. With just a little more body core room, it would be perfect.

Love it mostly

I have another OR jacket of similar design. I like it more. The hood has a zip garage and the pit zips are better than the full side zips. Guess it depends on your use, but the hood needs to have something to keep it from being a small sail, and the full side zips seem to have no real purpose. Unzipped the jacket is free to flap around. Love the quality of OR and owner a bunch of it...

Waterproof

Took this on a 5 hour hike, 35 degrees F and raining steady the whole time. Water just beads off. Took it off at the end and gave it a shake, almost completely dry. Materials seem very durable, although I've only taken it out once so far. Love the wire-brimmed hood! Kept the water off my face. Zipper is a little tricky to get started but otherwise no complaints.

Well-designed and practical jacket

The Furio jacket is well designed and appears to be quite durable. It is highly functional, with an efficient design. I particularly like the hood adjustment features and the side zips that allow you to customize ventilation. I am 5'7" and 150 lbs with an athletic build and the Small fits me well. I look forward to many years of use of this jacket in the field and the backcountry.

Replaced my old Furio

After 12 years it was finally time replace the best shell I've ever known. What else can you say? It's bomb proof. Never have cold with it on.

Solid jacket on a budget

I bought this jacket because it was cheaper than a lot of full 3L gore-tex jackets. It worked well for winter hiking, I will be taking it snowboarding as well!

New favorite shell

Kept me completely dry over 2 full days in the field for my AIARE lessons. About 2-3' of heavy snow and freezing rain. Fabric didn't even wet out!

Can't do any better

I've heard it said that there no such thing as bad weather, just insufficient gear. This jacket takes care of that requirement. I've had OR 3 layer gore for the last 15 years for snowboarding. The hoods have always moved great when the hatches are battened down. This jacket is just as good and I appreciate the chest pocket on both sides. That same things that make it great for snow make it great for mountain biking.
