Furious foe for a stratovolcano.
Weather can be a daunting adversary on the mountain. So when the elements go nuclear, make sure you're armed to the teeth with Outdoor Research's Furio Jacket. In the wake of Mt. Rainier's relentless and ever shifting storms, this coat protects and deflects the brunt of Mother Nature's harsh whacks and whumphs without prohibiting you from doing a victory-boogie at the summit.
Falling in the footsteps of the earlier Furio prototype, this year's edition is designed to be softer, quieter, and more streamlined than seasons prior. Designed as a hybrid mapped pattern, this piece is outfitted with Gore-Tex Paclite product technology throughout the body and is reinforced with Gore-Tex C-Knit textile on areas of high wear and tear. When you need to batten down the hatches, the Halo Hood fits snugly over a helmet while the TorsoFlo bicep-to-hem side zip ventilation presents easy-to-access aeration when you inner layers start to resemble something of a Roman steambath.

Awesome Hardshell!
- Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
- Fit:True to size
- Size Bought: Medium
Absolutely love this jacket. Great protection from the elements, very warm (with a long sleeve t shirt it's comfortable down to about 40f. Also fits great with my floodlight puffy underneath making a great combo for colder temps.) yet breathable thanks to the hem to bicep pit zips and the mesh backed chest pockets which act as vents when opened. The hood is huge but thanks to smart design it doesn't limit vision or restrict movement. It's not the lightest shell but the extra weight is worth the durability it adds. I also really like the length which is hits around the upper thigh. Many shells stop at the waist leaving a lot of exposure or go down too far limiting maneuverability. The length of the Furio is perfect! The Gore Tex C Knit fabric which is added to the shoulders, hood, upper arms, and by the waist has a very soft and buttery texture which never feels clammy against the skin and also allows under layers to slide smoothly preventing them from bunching up. Overall this is a very rugged, well designed jacket. Perfect for everything from backcountry snow sports to alpine climbing. Due to the intelligent design and venting features it's a bomber 3 season shell. Another awesome piece of gear from OR. Highly recommended!
Hood Management/Storage and Tight Fit
- Familiarity:I returned this product before using it
- Fit:True to size

6-0' /172# slim build -purchased L.
Excellent quality but found opening around neck too large permitting cold air infiltration when NOT using hood. With hood up, nice fit with simple one hand adjustment. Found fit in arm pit area slightly too tight with thin layer over base. Returned
Hey Skip, I am sorry that the jacket did not fit your build. This is good feedback and I will be passing it on to the designers at OR to address.
Thank you for writing,

Hey Sean, Thanks so much for taking the time to write. This year's version of the Furio also has GoreTex C-Knit in the shoulders for soft, supple and quite movement, with all of the protection of GoreTex. Very Cool!
So glad you like it, and have a great holiday!
