Why We Like The Outdoor Research Ferrosi Pant

We believe that if you can't wear your current pants up mountain peaks, on long plane rides, and to the brewery after the crag, then it's time to upgrade. And we've found that there are few better options than the Ferrosi Pants from Outdoor Research. Not only does the lightweight nature of these pants make it an easy choice for light-and-fast movement in the mountains, but it also prevents lingering moisture from clinging close to your body for hours on end. Accidentally tip your canoe? No worries, the Ferrosi pants dry up and get the adventure back on track in no time.

I was excited to get a lightweight pant for summer but was immediately disappointed. I ordered my normal size to have the waist fit perfectly but they looked like they were painted on. I returned and went up a size to then have the waist too big and they still looked like they were painted on.

Pilled and torn within the first week

After reading some reviews (e.g., "I'm an archeologist and these held up forever out in the field!") I had higher hopes for the Ferrosi pants than they bore out. I purchased them before a multi-day backpacking trip. I like the way they feel, though the material is thin enough that even keeping a hair tie in my pocket resulted in the outline of a circle on my thigh. I was disappointed to find a pull in the fabric on my first day wearing them (during which I rode a train--there was no major activity), but figured it was just bad luck. Then, a few days into the trip I realized that the material was pilling around the waist/fly. My backpack waist straps weren't hitting it, so it wasn't that--I still don't know what did that. And then I took a spill on the trail and tore a hole in the seat of the pants. (Not likely the pants fault, but thicker fabric would've held up better, I suspect.) In general I like these, but not enough to buy another.

Very stretchy, AND they stretch out alot, size down!

Super light weight, however i would size down. They fit perfect when i tried them on, then after about an hour of wear they stretched out almost a full size, making the waist way too big. They also seem to be wearing very quickly. I work outside as a gardener, and after about 10 wears they are starting to pill, the threads have begun to fuzz. If you're occasionally hiking in them as part of your rotation they will probably last longer.I also probably would not rock climb in them as I imagine they would wear out very quickly. They do dry fast, and are very comfy with a belt.

My new favorite hiking pants

I love the fit and feel of these! Maybe my new favorite hiking pants after being loyal to another outdoor brand's hiking pants for over a decade. They're also definitely wearable around town and can be dressed up.

Sweet pants!

I surprised my wife with a pair of these - I have and have had at least 5 pairs and love them. My wife tried them on and was super impressed with how well the fit, and the material seems a lot more durable than older versions. She told me to order them in khaki too...

My 3rd pair!

I like these pants so much that I have 3 colors. I am 5'3, 135 pounds, and the size 10 (short) fits perfectly for me. I have worn them hiking at Glacier National Park and shopping at the grocery store.

Fabric is thin and clingy

The fabric is not how it looks in the photos, it's thin and clingy and out lines the linings of the pockets and any dimples you may have in your skin. Waist is large while runs small through thighs and hips, fit like poorly made leggings and hold onto body odor despite use of laundry disinfectants/borax etc. Not even worth the sale price, definitely do not buy full price, you could do so much better with that money.

Sad.

Great basic climbing pants!

This is great staple climbing pant option for those looking for a water-resistant (not waterproof!) and full length climbing pant. I got caught in the rain with these and they held up for about a minute before my legs got soaked through. Overall, slightly stretchy which is nice for climbing, and the regular length doesn't result in a cropped pant which I like as someone with longer legs. I bought this in a size 2 but it was too big for me; I use the inner drawstrings to tighten them all the way. I'm 5' 8" and 110 lbs.

These are the greatest!

Wore these on my 2 week trip throughout Slovakia. These were the only pants I took and they washed out nicely and dried overnight. Wearing these, and taking only 1 extra shirt I was able to travel with only a bookbag! And so very comfy, too!

Great Travel Pants

I wore these pants multiple days in a row while on a walking tour in Japan. They were super comfortable and fit well. Every few days I washed them and hung them to dry overnight. Great choice for the active traveler.
