When the sun is shining and a full-on insulated shell glove is just too much, slide your mitts into the Outdoor Research ExtraVert Glove. This lightweight workhorse combines to toughness of a leather work glove with the warmth and flexibility of a ski glove. A wool blend lining adds warmth and wicks moisture, while anatomical curve helps you grip your poles on the uphill skin track.

Bottom Line: A light, warm workhorse for cold, dry conditions.

Has anyone worn this under a shell mit? I'm thinking this

Has anyone worn this under a shell mit? I'm thinking this plus the OR Endeavor mitt (Gore Tex paclite) would cover all my bases.

Great gloves for variable conditions

By:
February 5, 2011

Took these for a four day yurt trip. First three days temperatures varied in the 20F - 30F range, and I only used these gloves for both the skinning up and the skiing down. The fourth day temperatures dropped to -1F and I combined these with some shell mittens over the top and they worked great. My hands get cold easily, so I was surprised how well these coped with a range of conditions and the wool inners feel really comfortable.

After a bunch of use all season, I finally found their limit after 2 hours bushwhacking in the rain when my hands got so wet they were cold (and shriveled). Switched for a dry pair of gloves, and am actually impressed it took all season and crappy conditions to get there...

The ExtraVerts are similar to the Verts, but with the addition of the wool-blend insulation.

Nice for dry cold weather

By:
October 23, 2010

i got these as a gift. They are great for cold dry weather. They are pretty much the OR vert gloves on steroids with much higher quality. The vert liner is much thinner, and the leather on these is top notch, while i am not really impressed with the leather on the vert. Not really water resistant for any extended period of time. They breathe much better than a laminated glove and are still warm.

very nice, but not warm

By:

perhaps i was asking the impossible. i wanted a glove that was thinner and allowed me to easily do zippers and maybe even fiddle with an ipod, but still keep me as warm as my 20 year old solomons - for under $75. didnt happen. 25 degrees, sunny, mild breeze, my hands were freezing and i wont be skiing with these on again unless its in shorts. however, i do now have an awesome pair of gloves to go to games, shovel snow, etc.

Soft shell is better in dry climates

By:

This OR glove rocks! The leather is extremely grippy and durable and the softshell material breathes great yet stops wind. H2O proof gloves trap sweat and don't dry quickly. This glove keep my hands warm in most all conditions except in extreme cold on lift serve skiing when not generating internal heat. The insulating material inside seems to have packed out (formed to my hand) but it still keeps my digits toasty. The hook and loop cuff stap delaminated but OR sewed it back on in a hurry. Great glove!
