Regretably small...

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

I purchased the Exos Baseball hat because it had all the features I was looking for: water resistance, folding bill, and being an insulated baseball-style hat with fold-out ear flaps for the nasty weather. I ordered the Large/X-Large model due to having an exceptionally large head. (I already own the Outdoor Research Lightstorm Bucket hat in XL and it fits like a glove). No problem, right? Wrong. When I received the Exos, I was surprised at how small it looked. No worries, I'll just try it on and it should stretch a bit. HOLY COW! This thing was so tight I had to quickly remove it. I even double checked the size tag on the inside of the hat to make sure it read "L/XL" which it did. Just to be fair, I had my wife try it on too (and she has a "normal" sized head). She too said it was very snug, which surprised us both. Of course, Backcountry was great and walked me through the return process without a hitch (thanks again, Annalee!). I'm kinda' bummed because I really liked this hat. I ended up ordering the Mountain Hardwear Peat Beanie tonight, so we'll see how it works.

2/1/14 - Update: Just received the Mountain Hardwear Peat Beanie (size Large) yesterday. The good news: it fits! (Yay for my pumpkin-sized head). I took it out for a spin today in the sleet/snow for the first time. I really like how the short bill kept the sleet/snow out my eyes and off of my face. It seems pretty warm too--it just covers the tops of my ears, but it can be pulled down snugly to cover them completely. Sorry Exos. It just wasn't meant to be.

Olive-a-licious!

Good hat. Not sure about how windproof the material is. Fitting is good. I bought a L/XL. I have a good bit of hair, smaller may fit me a bit snugger.
I like how the brim holds, and how the hat does not loose it's shape after collapsing. Prefect hat for those ski tours, brisk waits at the bus stop or any outing for watching sports!
