Tough enough for the backcountry, techy enough for touch phones.

The Outdoor Research Men's Ambit Glove fulfills the durable standards that backcountry skiers need as well as the techy requirements for touch phone users. A Ventia Dry insert gives this glove excellent waterproof protection to keep your hand dry, and 266 EnduraLoft insulation covers the back of your hand and your thumb with toasty warmth. Outdoor Research placed TouchTec leather on the palm and the fingers so you can record yourself hiking through all that untouched  powdery goodness. The SuperCinch gauntlet closure and the PreCurved construction secure your hand with a snug fit, and the brushed tricot lining is soft next to your skin for long-lasting comfort.

    Great Touchscreen Feature

    • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought these to replace a pair of worn out similar OR gloves. At first I bought similar North Face gloves, but I could barely hold a ski pole.

Then I found the Ambit gloves! The fingers are amazing and the touchscreen capability BLOWS the North Face glove away. The entire leather palm is effective not just 2 finger tips. You can even text effectively with the smallest part of the glove. Very impressed with the fit, dexterity and touchscreen feature.

Now time to go skiing and test the warmth!

    Hope this helps...

    Great gloves.

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

Lightweight warm and dry. Did avy course in the rain with these on and hands warm and dry at end of the day. Very easy to put on over parka cuffs. Sizing a bit on the low side. I wear a 7 surgical glove and this glove in large is just right. ie order a size up from what you think. Now staring to wear through on edge od pointer finger beside thumb.

Not the glove I was hoping for

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

I purchased these gloves hoping that they would be warm *and* allow me to text when on the ski hill or around town.

Unfortunately these gloves didn't really help out with either. I found that my fingers were constantly cold (even when walking around town on 20 degree days) and the fingers were so large that texting reduced to a hopeless act of mashing sausages at the screen.

I did love the OR craftsmanship, as well as the soft nose-wipe and the removable dummy cord.

My guess is that the TouchTec leather isn't the best insulator and so I lost a lot of heat through the palm. Maybe they should reduce the leather to just the finger tips? I ended up returning these to Outdoor Research.
