Alti Mitten

When the temperature outside is so brutal that spilled coffee crystallizes before it hits the ground, the time has come to bust out your Outdoor Research Men’s Alti Mitten and its Gore-Tex shell. Constructed for high-alpine mountaineering, arctic expeditions, and other pursuits into the frigid kryosphere, the Alti Mitten blends waterproof Gore-Tex membrane with a removable PrimaLoft-insulated liner to provide digit-saving protection from the ungodly cold elements.

Details

  • Gore-Tex waterproof and breathable membrane is guaranteed to keep you dry in brutal storms and allows evaporating sweat to pass through as you work up a sweat
  • Hefty doses of PrimaLoft One insulation traps in warmth and shields your hand from temps as low as -40 F.
  • A tough leather palm grips your poles or ice axe, and the pile fleece lining wicks moisture and adds extra comfort.
  • Updated thumb articulation improves dexterity
  • KEVLAR® stitching along the palm adds durability
  • Long gauntlet locks out snow, wind, and cold

Best winter mitts

This is my second pair of Alti Mitts - and these serve as a back up. Use for winter hiking in White Mtns. Primarily use the inner mitt while moving and pull on the outer while stopped. Extremely warm, excellent wind and waterproof protections. These will serve you well into the negative temperatures with high winds. If you need the wind/waterproof protection of an outer mitt but not the added warmth, pick up a pair of the OR Revel Shell Mitts. Size up one size and they will pair perfectly and weigh next to nothing in your pack.

I bout 2 Pairs Years Ago, Still Wearing Them!

Love the combo of a Winter Mitten inside of a Winter Mitten- and so windproof. Bought 2 pairs a few years back for me and my gal and we are still wearing them every day! I have Raynaud's and my hands freeze easily. These are perfect for ALLDAY outside below zero F!!!

They are great, but...

Very warm, but the hand and finger portion needs to be formed or sewn to shape a bit of a curve.

Toasty

If you plan on doing any big Alphonse trip this is what you'll need to stay warm.

Do Buy these Mitts

Just back from an outing in -30C. My hands usually freeze in 5 minutes but not with these mitts! This product performs as advertised. I believe it when they say 8,000 meter rating.

Do not buy!

I purchased the mitten three years ago for skiing and winter hiking and it was very warm for the first winter. But over time the insulation packs down and does not keep hands warm without hand warmers. Very disappointing for this price point. I emailed and called customer service and they were not helpful.

Awesome mitts

I haven't used them in cold weather yet, but just by how they feel and the quality, they are going to be awesome

2nd pair

My second pair. As I age my hands are getting a little more sensitive to colder days (anything lower than -15C). Get these on and I'm good to -30C... I never been below -30C so I can't really comment how good these gloves can be.

Very warm

Good fit. Bulk restricts dexterity but hopefully they will break in some. I understand that in order to maximize warm they must be bulky.

Toasty enough for the top of the mountain at -40C

These are some seriously warm mits. I usually go with gloves for ski patrolling but I needed something warmer this winter. These are them. Nice and warm at -40C plus 100km winds.
