Alti Glove

The Alti Glove already has a reputation for standing up to brutal alpine conditions, but this season, these bombproof expedition gloves got a big boost in ergonomics. Outdoor research has a die-hard mission to create something that's innovative and actually works, and its all-new 3DFit Technology is no exception. Rather than translating a two-dimensional design into a three-dimensional glove, Outdoor Research used a process of draping fabrics on three-dimensional molds of the human hand in different positions to create a dramatically different glove shape that minimizes bulk and maximizes dexterity. The result is better handling and grip of ski poles, ropes, or ice axes.

Built with the ever-trustworthy protection of GORE-TEX and an even heartier dose of PrimaLoft insulation than years before, this ski-mountaineering glove provides excellent warmth, waterproofing, and breathability without sacrificing tactile ability. And while these gloves are geared towards technical objectives, that doesn't mean they lack a few more luxurious details, like the soft nose-wipe thumb and removable, touchscreen-compatible liner with silicone grip palm.

Warmest gloves I've found

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my third pair of alto gloves. Warmest glove I've found. I wish you could get them without the gauntlets but these keep my hands warm to single digits...below that I'm an Alti-mitt guy.

Super warm

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very warm gloves, I actually don't think they'll be good above 20F they're so warm. Great for high altitude mtn expeditions, haven't shredded them yet. My hand measurements resulted in a great fit according to their sizing chart, so that was nice too. Absolutely would recommend if warmth over dexterity is an ok trade off.

Very very warm with dexterity.

Have used these for a few years now. Took them up to 6000 meters. As cold as -26. Hand enough dexterity to pull and rack ice screws while wearing them, although they are a bit bulky.

Doesn't fit and touch-screen doesn't work well

It is very warm. However, it is too large to grabe anything even though we follow the size chart to select the size. Also, the liner's touch-screen doesn't work for the most of time. I have to give it up and return it even though I have to pay for the shipping and handling fee - $6,95.

MT. RAINIER READY

These gloves saved my fingers on my Summit of Mt. Rainier. Happy about my investment. Would recommend for any serious mountaineering activity or winter conditions.

Great Gloves, but round up for sizing

Great gloves. I've used them several times and the liners and the shell work great independently, but together they restrict movement in the thumb (webbing seems too short from thumb to index finger). Leaves holding tools feeling a bit insecure (tools are held between fingers and glove stretched taught, not necessarily pressed up against the palm). This is not the case when liner or shell are used separately. Would recommend sizing up if close. Quality construction and materials. I can tell these will last a long time.

Has potential but needs a redesign

I first ordered these in an XL since that's the size for all my other OR gIoves. The XL's were very sloppy with extra material on the back of the hand. I also ordered a size LG hoping these things would improve but it was the same problem with just shorter fingers. Also, the gloves do not have the same level of dexterity as other higher end gloves from OR - the square cut fingers and poor fit don't help either. These gloves do have a grippy palm and feel like they would be plenty warm in extreme weather. If OR decides to redesign this glove, it could be a great seller for the brand.

Good value, good quality, some issues

Solid ski gloves. With liners in are extremely warm - too warm generally for skiing. A bit roomy without the liners and bit tight with them in. Liners are decent gloves on their own, but need a wrist cinch as they slide down easily. Often wear a thinner/tighter liner when skiing and that works well. Touchscreen feature is useless. Think they will last though, durable material and waterproofing is good.

I got these kind of late this winter but they did get some use. These gloves fit well. With the liner in they are as warm as I need and functional enough to grasp ski pole, hiking poles or any thing else one would want to carry. If you remove the liner and just wear the shell you do lose some warmth, but you gain a lot of flexibility, dexterity and grip. The liners themselves give the wearer the ability to be able to do whatever is needed when handling. I took this a step further and put on an old pair of tight thin glove liners and then the Alti shell without the provided liner. Another good option when you need even less warmth and more dexterity. I think these gloves fit really well, and were comfortable as one could want.
