You need a serious pack to handle serious trips. The Osprey Waypoint 85 Backpack gives you enough room to carry absolutely anything you need for your months away from home. When you head to the airport, this pack splits into two bags, so you can check the heavy stuff and carry on what you need for the flight. Use the daypack for hiking around town, and stash the big bag in your hotel room. Unlike other travel bags, this pack includes the plush suspension and well-vented design that you expect from Osprey.

Concern is the size...traveling to china, need something that I can carry on...we will be on the go and carrying all our gear. The 5100 cu in is more than I need. Traveling only a couple of weeks. Some rural areas.

Does the larger compartment meet carry-on requirements?

Being upwards of 5000 cubic inches, this pack is a monster and is equipped to carry everything you need for an extended expedition. As such, it's pretty darn big once you've filled it. I have a 3000 cu-in pack that baaaaarely meets carry-on requirements when it's full, and only on most airlines (United is getting more and more picky these days). If you need to use this as a carry-on, just don't pack it to capacity and then cinch every single strap on this thing down until it fits where you need it to go.

Happy trails!
