A lightweight and versatile women-specific pack for day hikes and mountain bike loops.

Strap on the lightweight and versatile Osprey Women's Tempest 9 Backpack for a fast-moving day hike on Saturday, and a mountain bike ride on Sunday. The Tempest 9 offers room for trail maps and a rain shell, as well as bike tools and a spare tube in the front zippered pocket. The backpack includes a pull-out helmet attachment that pulls through the vents on your helmet to secure it to the front of the pack, as well as front bungee webbing and a tool loop and bungee ties to hold additional items and tools. A hydration sleeve holds a reservoir (not included), and a number of small pockets around the pack hold smaller essentials you'd like to quickly access.

The shoulder straps and hip-belt are specially shaped, positioned, and padded to fit the female figure, and feature mesh-covered foam padding that provides breathable cushioning. The sternum strap keeps the backpack from shifting and helps support the pack's weight as you scramble up big rocks or carve through singletrack turns. With the hip belt's ErgoPull adjustment system, you'll be able to easily snug down or loosen up the hip belt on the fly, and the shoulder and sternum straps can also be adjusted for a perfect fit tailored to your load. The ventilating, ridged foam back panel keeps air flowing between your back and the pack to keep you fresh. Reflective graphics make you visible in low light conditions, which is perfect if you decide to go for a trail run at dawn, return to your car, and hop on your mountain bike and ride until dusk.

    Great city and day pack

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this small pack for my wife and she loves it. It's the perfect size for bringing into a city to hang out for the day and still large enough for the essentials on a day hike. Great product, as always, from Osprey.

    Great function

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Bought for a very petite woman, it fits well and snugs nicely so it stays put while riding. Plenty of room for the daily necessities. Very solidly built.

holds a ton and fits great

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have no issues, it's durable and a solid companion

    Great little pack

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Used this for 8 and 10 mile day hikes in and around Bryce and GrandCanyons. This was my first woman's pack and it was shaped perfect. I ordered the large as I am 5'7" 145lb. Held my 2 liter camelback, small snacks and light vest and pullover. Crisscross outer straps held sticks and rolled up vest. The back is ventilated so less sweating. Padded straps for comfort and sizable side waist pockets for storage could hold iPhone or camera (my 6plus barely fit.) Adjustable waist, chest, shoulder straps. A bit expensive but I really like it.

    Great little pack

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

At 5'1", I have a lot of trouble finding anything that fits. The XS/S size of this pack fits me perfectly for day hikes.

I love all the straps and pockets. I can keep my small camera, bag of snacks, water bottle, and fleece on the outside within easy reach. There's adjustment straps over the shoulders (how close load is to my back), chest strap and hip belt, which allow a lot of customization of the pack fit.

Also, the tourmaline colour is much brighter than in the picture, and it's beautiful.

The sizes listed for purchase are xl/s and s/m, but it seems the actual sizes are s/m and m/ the larger one that's listed as s/m for sale actually the m/l? Or is it the description in the tech specs that has it wrong? Thanks.

Hey Dave - The women's products from Osprey are sized with XS included. So in the tempest, where we have 2 sizes in each model, the sizes are: XS / S and S / M. I am 5'4" and have a short torso and longer legs. The S/M is too big for me and the XS / S fits me perfectly.

Here is something that you may find interesting: a S/M in women's is actually the same torso size (length) as a S/M in men's. The measurements have nothing to do with gender. But what we find, given that most women are smaller in torso length than men, is that for women, we must include an XS option for women.

    I hope that helps!

Could this be used for skiing?

This is the pack I ofetn take to carry my extra gloves, down jacket, water, lunch, etc. It's really low profile and fits easily on a chair. If you need it to carry your gear for a backcountry trip or a "beyond the boundaries exploration," then please look at the Kode or Reverb. Hope that helps!
