Carry your gear and water in lightweight comfort by foot, bike, or your chosen mode of outdoor transport.

Navigate on foot through a labyrinth of trees until you reach a river, hop in your canoe and paddle over to where your mountain bike is waiting, jump on and pedal to the finish line. Whether you're in the middle of an adventure race, or just working your way through a typical weekend day, the Osprey Talon 22 Backpack is an excellent lightweight carrier for your gear and water along the way. This panel-loading backpack holds up to twenty pounds of gear, while its mesh-padded shoulder straps and hip-belt wrap you in breathable, cushioned comfort. The hip-belt's ErgoPull adjustment makes it easy to tighten or loosen on the fly, and the shoulder straps, harness position, and sternum strap can also be adjusted for a perfect fit tailored to your anatomy and load. The ventilating ridged foam back panel keeps you fresh through long day hikes or multi-sport excursions.

A pull-out helmet attachment fits through the vents on your bike helmet to secure it to the front of the pack, loop and bungee attachments hold tools and trekking poles, and multiple smaller pockets hold items you'd like to quickly access. Control the volume of your load with side compression straps, and use the straps to hold additional items. The backpack's rugged nylon fabric stands up to the abuse that long days outdoors throw at it, so by all means, put it to the test and get outside for plenty of long days.

Wish I would have upgraded earlier

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have been looking for a do it all backpack for mountain biking, Nordic and Alpine skiing and hiking for many years. I finally rolled the dice on this pack and wish I would have done it sooner. Comfortable-check, roomy-check, form fitting-check. It does it all, comfortably and with easy access to gear no matter the activity.

    Great little pack

Perfect larger day pack for day-to-day city use or hikes. Classic Osprey stretchy pockets on the hipbelt, pack sides and front. Lightweight, comfy design with vented back and shoulder straps. Tip zip pocket for your easy-to-reach essentials as well as a zip mesh organizer in the main pocket. Huge main pocket that can fit a full day's supplies plus some, or a week's worth of groceries from the market.

    Remains a Winner

Like the other reviews I agree that the Talon 22 is an all-around great pack! I have a long torso, so I opted for this pack instead of the women's Tempest 20. (It just felt more comfortable) I bought a s/m and it hasn't rubbed me or climbed up my back as some packs do. I don't like to put my phone in the hip-belt pockets because it's too bulky. (although it fits) I love that there are side pockets which are great for many things, including my phone/camera or Nalgene! I would recommend the Talon 22 to anyone because it is so versatile and comfortable!

    Remains a Winner

Hey Lexi! Right on - this pack crushes it. The Talon 22 is still my overall favorite, even though Osprey came out with the Tempest for women a couple years ago. It's the pack I just keep going to!

Honestly, it is the pack that I FORGET I have on. The straps and comfort are out of this world.

    Thanks for reviewing!

    Great pack

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've used this pack a ton on day hikes. It's super comfortable with all the necessary adjustments. The hydration pack pocket is a must of course. I like that it's light weight and is loaded with a ton of features and surprisingly roomy. My only knock on the pack is that it doesn't provide as much air flow in the back as I expected. Having said that, I've only noticed the sweat during heavy elevated hiking, so I doubt many other packs would do much better.

    Great pack

I've had this for a few years and its been through alot. Capable of being an everyday carry with books and a laptop to becoming a great day pack. Can easily fit some clothes, food, a towel, and a hammock for a trip to the stream! O and some fishing gear and a bladder! If packed correctly this thing can hold more than one would expect and is very comfy to lug around. Another great product by Osprey!

Hey there - Leta here with Osprey. I couldnt agree more... this pack continues to blow me away. I've had it for years, and it is my go to, even though we now have the women's version, the Tempest 20. You know what I think is so cool about this pack? The straps MOVE with you - they stretch, move, etc. no binding, no pressure. the fabrics are soft, and feel comfortable next to my skin. It is my "go to" for a day of play. Thanks for the review!

I have used the women's version for casual day hikes, sport events and weekend trips. It's a great size - not too bulky and the material has some nice stretch to it so it can hold more than you'd think at first glance. It's a very versatile and light pack that can hold its own on a day hike and yet look normal on in crowded events. The two side bottle holders and the waist pockets were very convenient. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a light, multifunctional pack.

Look no further for a day pack.

Not a lot of options for carrying technical climbing gear (rope, crampons, ice tools, etc), but this isn't marketed as a climbing pack. It's just so comfortable though.

Attached photo is the last rap off East Glacier Knob in RMNP outside Estes Park, CO. The Talon 22 was at its limits carrying all the gear required for a 10 hour alpine day, but it still worked just fine.

New models have an ice axe loop which is nice.

    Years of Use

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This pack has been with me for about 3 years now and it is still going strong. From doing my first 14er to serving as a grocery pack, it has done everything perfectly. I've even been able to stuff it with my camping gear for a one-night backpacking trip.

If you want a pack that will hold up for years and will be highly versatile, look no further. I will continue to buy this pack and recommend this to friends.

    Still my go-to pack

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've had this pack for about 2 years now, day in day out to work, class, riding my bike, hiking, climbing, carrying extra clothes, beer and snacks. It has definitely worn out over this time, but it is still holding strong. The hip belt pockets are perfect for hiking and biking, and the reflective patch on the back is good for biking as well. Highly recommended, and I'll probably get another one as soon as mine totally craps out.

Own a bunch of osprey packs in various configurations. Bought this as a light weight pack for bikepacking and general day pack use. On a recent desert bikepack trip, I was able to put a 4 Liter bladder in the sleeve and a couple extra liters in the pack and still had ample room for other crap. Hip belt, shoulder strap adjustments etc, ensured a great fit. The weight of all the water while biking dozens of miles off-road each day was less than ideal (hot, high center of gravity for dirt cycling). The newer talons have the helmet holder?awesome feature helping to keep track of helmet and in when gravel grinding on easy terrain, I shed the helmet in favor of a sun hat. Another bomber offering from Osprey. This is a pretty high volume pack that if over-packing or packing dense materials (like water, food etc.,) can get pretty heavy, pretty quick?negating the fast/light that you probably bought thick pack for.

Does this come in M/L and if so will that size be in stock anytime soon?

Does the Talon 22 come with an integrated rain cover?

    Hey Kevin,

Osprey offers rain covers as accessory items.

I would recommend checking out the Osprey Packs UL Rain cover. It looks like the small would be a nice tight fit but you might want to consider the medium if you plan on having a very full pack!
